Santander 123

Hi,
Can anyone advise if the Santander 123 is a good account?
The Google reviews are absolutely abysmal, majority rating this account with 1 star.
Thanks.
John

Hi,we've been with Santander since they took over A & L about 4 years ago and have never had a problem.Where else can you get 3 percent on 20k with instant access and cash back on your direct debits as a bonus.

    What makes a good account?
  • I've only had my account for a couple of months and no problems so far. It's not my primary current account though, I only use it for the interest and cashback.

OP, have you read the best bank accounts article, as you were advised by MSE yesterday?

I recommend it. I like the interest rate and the cashback. I have only occasionally been into a branch or used their telephone service but when I have it has been friendly and efficient.

I started out like grimsalve but in my case it is gradually becoming my main account by default.

This question comes up every so often in here.

At last reckoning about 2 in 10 hate Santander and can't wait to see them sink into the fiery pits of hell. And the other 8 in 10 are pretty happy with them.

I have been with them since Abbey/Alliance & Leicester days and am in the 8/10.
  • I think they are better than they used to be.

Like many others, I have a 123 account for the 3% interest and cashback, only had it 6 months, but very happy so far.

I think you're right. They had a rather bad reputation but they seem to have improved that over the past year or so and the introduction of the 123 account has gone a long way to dragging them out of the mire.

The same as the Google reviews of Barclays, Lloyds, Tsb, NatWest etc then. You need to compare the reviews with those of their peers and not take anything at face value.
