when i say slow i mean slow at general web browsing MSE argos ebay etc.
My ipad and phone work fine off same wifi, so assume its not the wifi, any ideas or have i just purchased a really awful laptop?
They are slow. Slow at installing software, slow at browsing and slow running software. I have used them this past month.Better to remain a silent fool than speak and remove all doubt.0 -
The browser application will live in the memory (RAM) and cached files will exist on the hard disk...
A laptop usually has a single hard disk which has process different actives like:- Caching OS Applications & Services
- Perform operations Antivirus/Malware programs
- Paging File (More memory, the larger the cache file)
- Background Applications (Skype, Widgets)
Not everything lives in memory (RAM)
It is not caching - it does not perform operations, operations run in memory(RAM) and are worked on by the CPU (Central Processing Unit) . With 4GB of memory the page file will barely be used (unless running memory intensive operations like Video processing) Background applications are only swapped out if there is insufficient RAM
My bet is either Wireless problems including interference by other networks, or being on the wrong network. DNS settings (unlikely since the iToys seem fine), or PUPs (toolbars etc), or other problems e.g. 2 a/v programs. I have an I3 laptop which used to have a 5400rpm hard drive. I've changed the hard drive to SSD and that has really livened the thing up on startup and launching apps. It has made virtually no difference that I've noticed to browsing speeds. I wouldn't expect it to.
As I said in my first post - rule out wifi problems by testing it wired. Remove crapware AV etc. Check using the Task Manager just what is running.0
