Council not thought this through, new bins

Think of what happens to a long skinny bin sitting at the edge of the pavement when a slight gust of wind comes along.
Correct! they topple over and spill out their rubbish.
We live on a pretty windy street but have never had an issue with this.
No idea what your new system is but ours works well. Recycling in a full size bin, general in a half size, garden waste in a full size - all emptied fortnightly. Then a small food waste bin emptied weekly.0 -

Two years ago, our local council (Birmingham) stopped issuing us with black bags for general waste. We were supposed to be issued with three wheelie bins, one for paper, one for glass and tins and another for general waste. Most of the city now have these bins but the council appear to have run out of money so in our area, we do not have any of the three bins and are having to pay for bags ourselves.
On top of this, they have introduced a one off £35 charge for a green waste bin for grass and garden waste. If you do not have one, they will not take your garden waste. If you are elderly or cannot accommodate the large bin, the council charge you £35 for 35 green waste bags (so you have to buy more when you run out).
We are already paying for refuse collection as part of our council tax so why should we pay twice? So much of it is being dumped, it must be costing the council more money to clean it up.
I will add that for a number of properties the bins provided are totally unsuitable. This is the sort of scenario we are getting.

The poor lady is trapped in her property by the bins.
The green waste situation is a total farce, there were literally thousands of bags of green waste out on the streets during the spring and summer. The council even mowed around bags left on grass verges. The councillor in charge then came out and said the bags constituted fly tipping and there would be fines etc. But by saying that it meant that if reported to the council as fly tipping they were legally obliged to remove the bags. I'm sure the same will happen next year.0 -
My council did this a few years back. It actually works quite well amd when it's proper blowing a hooly down my street, on bin day the council lie the bins down after emptying them.
The rest of the time it's stored round the side of the house. In about three years it's only blown over onceI’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Health & Beauty, Greenfingered Moneysaving and How Much Have You Saved boards. once full of rubbish it should be heavy enough to tackle the wind.
But we don't have heavy rubbish any more, it is full of green milk carton tops that we must remove because they cannot be put in the recycling bin, also all the polythene/plastic food wrappers.
None of that stuff is heavy.over 73 but not over the hill.0
