obviously by reducing the level of benefits

the last labour government made the HB rules more generous

    try playing with https://www.entitledto.co.uk

Is that true I knew someone living in a nice detached house in one of the most expensive parts of the country all being paid for by Maggie's government.

I agree the benefit is a mess and it needs to be reformed but simple cuts across the board is not the way to go.

which way would you go that doesn't involve cuts more or less across the board?

The calculator has determined that you are not entitled to any benefits under your current circumstances.
Being an immigrant myself, I'm highly disappointed. :(

I'm off to wash some windscreens now and chew khat, because that's what we do.

Are you being handed £25,000 per year in benefits?

I'd start by reducing the amount of benefits additional children attract and limiting LHA room allowance to the number of rooms required when people first claim LHA.

Heard a it more on the radio.
Apparently the amount he would get in Romania is around £400.00 per year in benefits. His wages would be around £2000. So by coming the UK he will get 10 times as much.

This would be the equivalent to a Brit being offered £250,000 pa to go and live in another country and work part time.
I cannot think of any nation that would be stupid enough to do that.
Are we being taken for fools?

Well no its not, its all relative you are completely disregarding the cost of living, You could probably buy 20 times as much in romania with £400 the you can here

    good for you

however, I have made no reference to immigrants but merely a family with five children where the one earns 25k and the other doesn't work.

    what is your point?

I haven't the facts and figures about the breakdown of the costs or the specifics for individuals, but an indefinite freeze on all benefits would be a good starting point while the details are worked out.

I dont know how quickly the family would get these benefits, but it's certainly true enough.

As he's already here and working, he will be entitled to all that with his family here.

I'm just not sure whether he will get all that for his family as soon as his family comes to the UK. Presumably he would claim them, so he would.

A single person on job seekers gets £72.40 week one child brings in another £83.95 that increase to £150.43 with 2 children. That doesn't include additional LHA.
