How to Speed Up a Slow PC - By Closed

Hi all!

Oh no..... :(

Has this great article written by Closed gone completely or is it somewhere else?

I was just going to refer a friend to it, as it helped me a lot the thread is still there he has deleted the whole big first post from it.

Is there a copy of it anywhere else? or a new version etc.

Thanks!

    Agreed :)
    • Ccleaner
    • Malwarebytes
    • Spybot-S&D
    • Defragment
    • Check your operating system is up to date
    • Free AV from Avast!

That should do you for starters.

None of those will help if you don't know what "slow" means e.g. is it just slow on the internet could be a problem with the router/dns/interference if wireless
    or
is it just slow booting up? or is it slow just opening files etc.

You need to know first of all the definition of "slow"
then the Operating system and machine specs and then look deeper what is running, especially what is running uninvited. "Closed" would suggest running HijackThis , others would suggest DDS or OTL then ask others if you don't know how to interpret them.

In fairness to closed, who is generally well regarded on this forum, I don't know why he deleted the original post , but often the factory reset/re-install option is the only realistic option.

The number 1 way to speed up a PC is to remove any anti-virus software.
No single thing you can do will give you as much a performance increase as this.

    However the risks are obvious......

The number one reason for a slow PC is caused by accepting defaults from any downloaded software

You could always use teamviewer to control it for her from yours http://www.teamviewer.com/en/index.aspx , and she would be able to watch what you do
