In Asda, on the meat counter they have some sausages and they are lovely. I have a few packs of these sausages in the freezer. They are very thick sausages and get 4 for about £1.30. I buy them with US during the day and pay about 85p.

The premium are best grilled with a few veg. I get the butchers choice ones for cooking in something like casserole, toad in the hole, pasta and with a cooked breakfast.

    I voted for premium.

  • Local butchers, they do a very tasty pork and bacon sausage.

I wouldn't thank you for supermarket sausages though

There is no option for premium brand sausages.
I buy Heck, black farmers or surrey whites.
  • If you want fairly high meat content, and on a budget Lidl's hazelmead at £1.49(ish). 72% meat.
    PK! :money:
  • My favourites are sainsbury's taste the difference - they actually have a meaty texture unlike many others. They are more expensive than cheap sausages but I think they are worth it - and at £2.50 for a meal they're still one of the cheapest meat options so not exactly an extravagance.

We don't eat sausages very often, but I always keep some in the freezer.I buy tomato sausage from an independent butcher, where I get all my meat from.

We like Richmond because of the smooth texture but if someone could recommend a premium brand with similar texture I would switch - they all seem to have lumpy bits which I dislike. Any suggestions?

I love sausages - my favourites are probably the plainer, cheap and cheerful ones over more expensive fancy ones. The % of meat doesn't bother me at all - it's not like it's 42% meat, 58% floor sweepings (I hope).

The 'lumpy bits' in premium sausages are the meat! Cheap sausages use very finely ground meat mixed with loads of fillers to product that texture (which I find horrid but some people like). I am not convinced you can achieve the same texture in a high meat content product.
