in Gone off!
Having looked at the facts, I'm not really sure what to do.
I could afford the better sausages but I don't really want to as it only means I will be over budget. Looking at the meat content, it's a bit horrible knowing I'm getting just over half actual meat but then it's reflected in the price.
Supermarket Value Brand: 42% pork
Supermarket Own Brand: 56% pork
Supermarket Premium Brand: 90% pork
Supermarket "Butchers": 72% pork
Richmond: 42% pork
Question: What Sausages Do You Buy?

What do you regard as actual meat? I think the percentage of actual meat is very low. With sausages you will have rectum, innards and other appetising parts.0

I don't buy sausages very often as I consider them junk food, but when I do I go for those that are on special offer but only with a higher proportion of meat, so I'd go for Premium Brand or Butchers.
Many years ago I read an article on 'mechanically recovered meat', effectively a sludge recovered from carcasses/bones at high temperatures, which is often put into sausages and burgers and this put me off the more extreme junk foods for ever !!
IMO, we are what we eat !!0 -

It is great fun making your own, then at least you are aware of what you put into them0

Tesco Everyday Value sausages, 20 for £1.50 42% pork and actually taste really nice. We don't have them much though, they're just something we keep in the freezer in case OH has friends over to watch football, then we can whip up some sausage butties cheaply (as we also buy a loaf when its gone yellow sticker for 10/20p and freeze that)0

I don't mind paying a bit more for a decent banger and if the meat content is good then I'll give them a go.In Faversham is a butchers that's being making decent sausauges for years They are around £3.00 plus for about 6 but two of those with mash and veg are very filling so maybe a bit dearer but you only need two to fill you up.My local butcher where I live also makes his own sausages and when they are on offer I will buy some for the freezer.Dobbies locally sell brogdale farm bangers which are pricey but delicious .I'm not too keen on the SM value ones as they seem to be more fat than meat and the water that coes out is amazing sometimes0

IMHO having tried almost all brands the Asda Premium Sauages at 3 trays for £10 ( 2.2 Kg in total ) are the best tasting, do not shrink and do not leave you with a pan full of fat .
I rarely shop at Asda but call in now and then just to stock up on these and the New Year deals on New Zealand Lamb legs .0
