I was away for a while and couldn't check the thread. Many thanks for your comments.

My meter is digital but I always assumed most digital meters were not teleswitches. I think teleswiched meters also display on the screen an aerial symbol. At least that's what I was told by the man who changed my meter at another property. This also explains why meters for different apartments in my block switch between rates at very different times, typically seemingly random times too -- eg 23:27. Also, whenever I ask an electricity supplier about the exact times, they tell me something vague, which later turns out is always wrong! They always tell me something like rate 2 applies 00:30-7:30. Actually, I stayed up all night and discovered that for my meter it's 23:30-1:30 and 3:30-8:30. I discovered a similar problem at my previous flat and Scottish Power compensated me. So, I think the typical digital meter has a timer set to switch at times which are pretty much inconsistent with other meters even in the same building.

Here is my meter btw. Is that teleswitched?

So, I can't of course set my meter. The Horstmann switch is clearly not remote controlled:

I can certainly set the Horstmann switch to switch on any time I want (by turning the dial), but it will stay on for 7.5 hours. My rate 2 applies 23:30-1:30 and 3:30-8:30. The problem is the two-hour gap between the two periods. The question is shall I open the casing of the Horstmann switch and set it for these two separate periods if possible?

In which case, I can reduce the one and only period to two hours (for 23:30-1:30) or five hours (for 3:30-8:30). The latter is probably better. It will give the heater more time to do its job.

Exactly. And in any case if u read page 1 there is a minimum timed period it can be set to. I think it's greater than 2 hours.

Personally I would turn it off at 7.30 to prevent any peak usage in the morning.

Just in case someone finds this thread in the future, opening the switch and setting it is indeed very easy. The minimum time period is 4.5 hours. It's been working fine for a while. Thanks everyone for the input.
