cheap propane source to do vaccum leak test on car

This is where you really can't afford to be vague. Stop watching internet tips if you haven't the first idea of the potentials for disaster by misunderstanding the symptoms on a car, the potential faults, the varieties of cures and your own, chaotic application of diagnosis.

Need to work out where the leak is coming from because Ive had a few catalytic convertor and lambda error messages for runnign too rich and I really dont want to blow another £120 on lambda because it's running too rich.
Propane cans seem to be quite expensive, some of them are cheap in aerosol cans but the ignitor/valve is £30+
Eric the car guy suggests using intake/manifold cleaner as it has propane in it. ALthough proceed with caution as throttle body cleaner is more likely to turn to flames from engine heat than propane.
Anyway, anyone found a cheap source of propane that could be used for this job?
If were talking about the VW golf here? you don't say!
then bosch MAF is a common problem to go and so is the throttle body, throttles can cost upward of £300.00 and need to be coded to the car too so changing it over is not so simple as plug and play!.
its better to check vacuum hoses for leaks by remove and inspect for cracking and splits!. worn clips changed for good strong clips or jubilee's, and buy in some vacuum hose from a motor factor in a couple of sizes I used to sell "gates" piping off the roll and were cheaper than trying to source OE pipe.
The propane thing, if you don't know what your doing, stay well away from it!0 -
If you must... try this:
http://www.gasdeal.co.uk/product/6kg-propane-cylinder/
Includes the bottle and delivery!!
I think that's just the bottle, it's not filled.
The propane itself is not expensive, the nozzle is expensive and I think that cylinder needs a valve, nozzle, extension tubing & filling. Total bill £120+
Just looking for a ready to go solution, in a tank. Manifol/intake cleaner is best because it is formulated to be safe inside the engine, wd40 and the other stuff is likely to have all sorts of chemicals which some might not be any good inside the engine.
Propane is the "special ingredient" that will rev the engine up when it gets into the engine, i think manifold cleaners use propane predmoninately.0 -

It's also explosively flammable, and is likely to cause quite a fireball if A. you actually get some into the engine or B. you pass it over any ignition source (spark, heat).
If you think you've got a leak, get an expert to look at it, don't start spraying flammable gas onto a running engine to see what happens.0 -
Go ahead, I'm pretty sure you don't live anywhere near me. pop into your local Block + Quayle and buy a mini-blowtorch. The effects, for both outcomes, will be the same.0

You could spit paraffin on to it like a fire breather.0

Looks like the building goes boom, not the car. The door flexes just before.0 -

either way if London tiger doesn't use extreme caution, or has a arcing spark from a set of worn HT leads, hell be facing the same thing, but unlike the cars that can be repaired or scrapped, he'll be blasted in pieces.0
