Every time I call to activate a new Credit Card I get aggressively sold payment protection stuff and anti-fraud protection stuff for the CC and get asked why I didn't want it and whether I knew what I was doing!
Any good excuse to say that'll make them shuttup when they ask me? I have 2 credit cards to activate tonight

Just tell them NO THANKS. And YES I do know what I'm doing.0

I generally thank them for their concern, and know that its their job to sell protection but NO - I'm not interested. As far as fraud is concerned, I answer their query by asking them that dont the card company provide default protection for any fraudulent transactions, right ? That normally shuts them up.0

They will probably ask you if any unforeseen circumstances were to happen ie. you were to become unemployed, how would you pay your credit card bill. You can tell them that you have sufficient amount of money in a savings account that will cover your available credit card limit.0

Yea I mentioned that too and got silence from the other end of the phone. I have a CC merchant account so I know what those chargebacks and CC fraud are all about.Dickieburd wrote: »They will probably ask you if any unforeseen circumstances were to happen ie. you were to become unemployed, how would you pay your credit card bill.
Yep and I am self-employed and put that on my application form so they tell me how often new businesses fail and how I need protection, etc. and especially that I'm young and don't have experience in business, etc. Even though I put 3 years since I've been self-employed on the application form.
The worst was Barclaycard, claiming that I needed to wait on the phone for a few minutes for it to "activate" and using the time to get me to signup for all these extras, even though it's near instant activation from their end.0 -
Just keep saying you have products that cover that, keep repeating over "yep ive got a product that covers that", "yep i have 464 direct debits that cover 464 cool insurance products so im also covered for that"

Tell them you work for the FSA, they'll be so scared of mis-selling or not being compliant they wont be able to get you off the phone quick enough.0

Just say "No, I don't want that", they probably will ask why?
"Just NO, I don't want that, OK?"
That is my answer, and never have any problem.
Just bear in mind, they are selling you USELESS products and at the end of the day it will cost you. No reason to be nice.0 -
"I work in a war zone" kills the whole conversation stone dead every time.0

Inform them politely that you neither a mug or a muppet so kindly do not insult your intelligence by suggesting you purchase it.Every time I call to activate a new Credit Card I get aggressively sold payment protection stuff and anti-fraud protection stuff for the CC and get asked why I didn't want it and whether I knew what I was doing!
