If you lose your job because of an adverse mark on your credit history stemming from a 1p underpayment, then I would love be at the employment tribunal to which you would be taking your employer.Optimists see a glass half full

I am at my wits end I accidently underpaid my Natwest credit card back in July by one pence - yes one pence.
the following statements min payment included a £12 charge for this making my min payment £12 more than usual
I rang them, explained my error and they removed the £12 fee, SO I thinking effectively its now gone, done and dusted, I paid the usual monthly minimum payment showing on statement minus the £12 as that had already been paid back by the refund
OR SO I THOUGHT
the following statement showed an even bigger min payment showing the last months min including the first £12 plus another £12 ,
I immediately rang them to sort and again got the further £12 refunded ,BUT was told I MUST still pay the min payment on the statement even if I had had late payment credited back??!!!! anyway I did think meaning ive now overpaid £24 off my balance!
I checked my credit profile last week and they have slammed a late/missed payment indicator on my profile linked to the £12!!!
I work in financial services and must 'be fit and proper' with no adverse credit
I rang Natwest and explained all of the above, they have insisted there is nothing they can do!
im at my wits end as may lose my job and have no access to further credit for some time just when I may need it
I rang the ombudsman and they agreed that no common sense was being applied here by Natwest. NatWest seem happen to have to pay £500 and let me take the complaint to the ombudsmen, ALL OVER £0.01 pence!!!
has anyone else had a similar issue, if the ombudsmen don't upload my complaint I am doomed in everyway possible((
please no condescending comments about paying more than the minimum, not all of us have that luxury im afraid,
Many thanks
Myself I set up a direct debit for the min amount and then takes all the hassle out of paying. I then usually pay my credit card in full off each month manually but know if I ever forget the dd will kick in.0 -
I am self employed unfortunately but each year have to sign an annual declaration for the FCA confirming fit and proper conduct this late/missed payment on my credit profile would count as adverse and I can be struck off as not considered 'fit and proper' anymore to give advice.
Ridiculous I know, but you can understand why I am at my wits end!!

You could have avoided this by looking at the statements provided to you - they would have shown what payments were required.0 -
From now on just pay the minimum payment, whatever it is. Even if you think it's unfair all you are doing is paying back money you owe, it's not as if you are being overcharged by making a larger than mimum payment. You can appeal to the ombudsmen to get fees overturned if you want, but still make all the minimum payments they ask for.
The 1p underpayment is done so whatever you have to declare you already have to declare, regardless of whether the fees are refunded or not.Changing the world, one sarcastic comment at a time.0 -
Are you fit and proper?
You made a significant mistake in underpaying the card. The amount might be tiny but as an error it's significant.
You the arbitrarily decided that a previous payment could cover a new payment without checking.
Time to get a closer grip on things. This isn't Nat West's fault.0 -

Surely there is no question that denying someone their livelihood because of a mistake related to 1p could pass the test of being a reasonable and proportionate response.Optimists see a glass half full

Sounds completely bonkers, maybe a good time to look at using good ole Twitter? A slightly more public request for help might help get something expedited

Gosh the OP wanted some help! He's a newbie and it even says be nice!
Anyway, I'm sorry I can't be of more help. After working in the financial sector myself I'm going to assume you are fit and proper but are also Human. I hope you get it sorted soon.0
