Contacting Asda Legal Team

Hello
I hope somebody will be able to help me. I had an issue with Asda (bought bananas with the most poisonous spider in the world in the bag) that caused me a lot of distress and now i am suffering from panic attacks and lack of sleep. I am on antidepressant and sleeping pills at the moment. Anyway, their customer services advised me that they were not able to deal with my complaint and directed me to their Legal Department. I wrote to them, it has been over two weeks and they have not replied. With complaint I also made subject access request. They do not have any contact number or email address.

Maybe somebody has any experience with them. Thank you

If Customer Services cannot give you any other contact route, you will have to write to them again.

Might be worth checking with Customer Services that you sent your previous letter to the correct address though.

Presumably this was a Brazilian Wandering Spider, as in this story about Tesco bananas. I can see why you might be distressed about it.

If it was me I probably wouldn't be waiting for ASDA to respond at their leisure, I'd get a solicitor of my own onto it and let them do the chasing. It sounds like just the sort of thing that a 'no win, no fee' lawyer would be keen on.
  • Thank you. It was a Brazilian spider. I think the solicitor will be my next step. It's just dealing with it a bit too much at the moment taking to account I am on my own with a toddler. I did hope they would respond.
I did check address and posted it with recorded and they got it. All their departments have the same address.
    Thank you

    Where is the spider now?
  • Asda got the babies (they actually requested me to bring the bag in if I wanted them to look into it). The mum might still wander around in my flat (or the building).

Have you had pest control out - when did this happen?
  • It happened a few weeks ago. When I called asda customer services they told me they will not do anything unless I bring it to the store. I called pest controller and they said they will not come out unless I saw the spider. I told them there was a huge sack and a few small ones. But they just ignored me. I phoned council and explain to them that it was not only we were at risk but the other people in the building. They put us through to the council where Asda store was based. And all day long I was switched from one to another. When I took it to the store I demamnded them to organise a pest control company to come out to our flat. After numerous calls the pest controllers came in at 8pm (the incident happened 9am). They were authorised to fog out kitchen only. But by the time it could be anywhere. Since then we try to not stay at home, I cannot sleep at night, my little one is sleeping with me, I get panic attacks, like I had to look somewhere now, at 1am, as the spider is probably there. What the most upsets me that Asda completely ignoring us.

Do you have any proof that it was a Brazillian Wandering Spider?
  • I got a picture of the egg sacks. The manager at the store said that it was and then athe lady from the customer service phoned me and said yes they were eggs of that spider but the mum would not survive the trip. But it's not true as lots of the do.

So you don't actually know the spider was in the bag? What is it that you want from Asda? I can't see you getting far with this, better to move on with your life.
