Three Contract - All you can eat Data All you can Eat minutes

Hi

I am paying for unlimited data, minutes and texts with three right now and it costs me £39 a month.

Im still locked into a contract with them but I am wondering should I think about getting a cheaper contract elsewhere?

I only wanted the unlimited data as I had to use my phone for a period of two months as my main internet. Now I do not need that anymore (and since the 4G is non existent for some reason in many parts of London for me on three) I am wondering whats the point of having all this unlimited stuff.

If you are locked into contract with them whats the point of taking out another contract and running two contracts ?
It's not just about the money

OK, you don't need unlimited anymore.
Would it not be sensible to say then what you actually need?

And you can't switch while you are 'locked into a contract'.

There is your answer. Also if you dont get 4G but you will still get H+ which is very good.

That price sounds like you have a phone + SIM contract, it's very expensive. As the other replies mentioned, you are stuck until the end of your contract.

All the networks are rolling out 4G, in some places it's not as fast as the 3G... And in any case the coverage on 4G is currently patchy at best. So I wouldn't worry too much about 4G for the moment.

For occasional internet use, have you looked into using a local WiFi via a neighbour who has BT WiFi with FON? It's expensive for full time use but can be handy if you want to download a large file, such as a satnav Europe map set. Cost is £6 for 1 day of unlimited use (limited by their own use and line speed).
  • When you get out of contract, assess what you really need, and go for a sim only contract with Three or another provider. You can get the phone you have unlocked, if it is locked to Three, and move to another provider.
  • Why don't you ask three if they'll put you on a cheaper tarrif that matches your requirements more closely?

4G Not as fast as 3G then what's the point of having it then
Of course its faster a lot faster than 3G some places here where i live get 50+ MG you won't get that on 3G.

SORRY Didn't read properly you said some places which you are right.

    I'll let you off
I live in a rural area and can see speeds around 20 Mb/s some weekday mornings on Three's 3G. The lowish speeds seen my some on 4G may be a result of being dragged down by a large number of users. For example in a seaside town last year, I could only obtain a few Kb/s on Three (3G) during one Saturday evening...

My earlier mention of possibly using BT with FON WiFi as a short term means to download a large file might be a non starter if the local WiFi is a residential one. I understand from another thread that residential FON WiFi restricts the guest user to 512 Kb/s, which would be tediously slow (and expensive) for a large file download.
