Fairynuff! Will call 101 straight after I have called the insurance company tonight then if that is still required (obviously if the other party hasn't been in touch). Hopefully that will sort the matter out.

The law says you have to do it in person and as soon as practicable and any case within 24 hours.

A telephone call is no good. You have to report in person.
    Take your insurance certificate

Well, all is okay anyway as the owner has been in touch and left a voicemail. Called them back and left them a voicemail as couldn't get in touch and stated that I'll call them again this evening so I guess the police don't need to be involved.

    Why the insurance cert?

In the absence of personal injury, the info required is the reg. number, and the names & addresses of driver and owner..

Saves the inconvenience of having to make a return trip to the police station if they ask for it.

The owner eventually called me at 7pm today. They were in the middle of work so couldnt speak long. They were grateful for the note/honesty and said once they cleaned off the dirt etc, they didnt think there was too much damage. We have arranged to meet in person tomorrow afternoon wgen theyre back home to talk things through, swap insurance details etc although they did state they were open to how we sorted the matter out.

Thankfully, touch wood, they seemed like a good sort.

Look! You drove into a paper car (stationEry) and damaged the one you are driving and admitted liability therefore you are to blame. Even if you drove into a car that was not moving (stationary) you would still be to blame.
