  • Another way would be to get involved with the PTA (though I appreciate this can open a different can of worms)

That is a very good suggestion Jackyann. loads of parents complain apparently, but verbally. Perhaps if 'someone' actually went back through the calendar and detailed 'events' and the short notice the parents actually get, the Governers may take notice?

We don't get much notice either, although this time we had a week. They are not too bad in that it's just "wear something bright" or pudsey merchandise.

Seems every other week there's a cake / book / toy sale or other fundraising activity.

In our school we are having a pj day with a £1 donation. As a teacher I am going to go in my pj's even though I don't want to because it will make the children happy. They mostly love dressing up and seeing me dressed up. One child who doesn't like dressing up just doesn't - no problem.

I will still be following the curriculum but it will be more work for me as the maths will have a pudsey theme which I will be sorting out tomorrow evening. We will also be talking about children in need generally and how fortunate we all are compared to many other children in the world. In my (state) school the children are privileged compared to most of the children in the world and I think it's important they know how fortunate they are.

Schools do this sort of thing because many parents don't. We want the children to become well rounded, considerate adults who think of others.
Outfits don't have to be expensive or shop bought. On our last dressing up day (superhero theme) one child came as Thor with a blanket round his shoulders - he was as happy as those in expensive spiderman suits !

The parents at our school have had plenty of notice and I will be reminding them tomorrow at pick up time. If the school really haven't given much notice then politely complain to the head asking for more notice in future.

What lovely lives we all lead when this is a problem !

I'm a little bit confused Meritaten, do you look after the children?
