Be realistic 32 kids 1 teacher and 1 TA my wife does not have the resources to plan outstanding lessons all of the time. Three of those have serious SEN and the abilities range from reception to year 3 levels. Ofsted graded her as outstanding earlier this year.

How do you think my primary teacher managed? She had 42 kids to teach and NO teaching assistant. The school day was longer, too.

This morning DS said 'it's enrichment day will it be non uniform?' I said 'No idea, I don't attend the school', Son is 14 not 4 so perfectly capable of finding out this info. There was nothing on the newsletter, I go through them with a fine tooth comb and the school website, I'd only managed to locate where the calendar is yesterday after school changed it out of recognition over the summer, but it didn't say either way. Son went for going in Uniform and guessed correctly.

Then you would think that not faffing about with charity days would lighten her load - but then, you didn't really say how she felt about them.

Yeah - I knew I would get at least ONE! perhaps your kids nanny deals with all that - or you don't have kids.

    Why the personal attack? Relax.

If you don't want people's opinions don't start a thread, isn't the point to discuss the problem? Is it wrong for me to point out that at least a few sets of parents dont read the start of term newsletter with vital information, or the weekly one that always gives at least weeks notice as a reminder?

Maybe your daughter missed it and is blaming the school. Maybe the school are not organised? Maybe the teacher forgot because they were dealing with a traumatised DV victim whose child's behaviour has been worsened by witnessing it? There are lots of reasonable explanations.

It is so easy to judge others from afar yet have no desire to extend a hand and see if you can help improve things for the benefit of everyone.

90% of the day is taught as normal and where possible lessons use the charity theme and incorporate learning in a fun way. She doesn't enjoy charity days but she has no choice just as she has no choice in the curriculum she has to teach. The events and cakes are organised by the friends of the school (parents, vicar, etc) they expect and plan for it every year.

Personally, I could never afford to go out and buy outfits especially with the less than generous notification, nor do I have the skills to make one either (they would look like the child made it themselves..or worse!)......they just went in non uniform items as did a fair few other children.

Youngest NEVER did non uniform days, for him, school was where you wore your school uniform, it was not a place where you wore 'outside' clothes or silly costumes.....I always paid the dress down 'fee' though. He was never bullied for it either, even when he was the only child out of hundreds still wearing his school uniform, he was just him being him and they just accepted him for it.
We made it! All three boys have graduated, it's been hard work but it shows there is a possibility of a chance of normal (ish) life after a diagnosis (or two) of ASD. It's not been the easiest route but I am so glad I ignored everything and everyone and did my own therapies with them.
Eldests' EDS diagnosis 4.5.10, mine 13.1.11 eekk - now having fun and games as a wheelchair user.

I think the point of starting the thread (as many others) is to get people to agree with you.

If they don't and point out that perhaps it's part of the curriculum, perhaps it's an opportunity to teach children about how 'charidee'_pale_ works, perhaps it's a chance to do something else at school than cram for tests, perhaps schools are targeted by the said charidees to join in, perhaps children might even have some fun in their learning......then they get shouted down!!

    I think that's how it works. ;)

P.S. OH and if you can throw in a bit of teacher bashing then you'll be welcomed with open arms.

    HTH.
  • Not more teacher/school bashing! OP you do seem to spend a lot of time moaning about school and you don't even have children attending one!

Blimey I'm the only one who sends money and stuffs the dress suggestion :o

I did too when my son was at school. Many children just went in ordinary clothes. It's not compulsory to have fancy dress and some children would hate it anyway.
