Vodafone not informing of DD amount

Hi
I've been a long standing customer of Vodafone, and for some stupid reason I still am.
Today I've discovered that one phone, usually with a bill around £12.50 to £15, has a bill for £48. I am unable to access the bill for this phone online through My Vodafone, and have had long standing issues with Vodafone texting details to one of the phones. They have now set this up as one phone receives the bill amount by text for the other phone (though this isn't clear) and no notification is received at all for the phone that's had the massive bill.
We only found out about this when the bank wrote to advise the DD had bounced (the account it comes from is kept tight, as the person is on benefits).
I have asked Vodafone about this, and they can't tell me anything, in fact the guy in "billing" I spoke to admitted he sets up direct debits but didn't know anything about the direct debit guarantee or the obligations on Vodafone to notify people of their bills.
I am wondering if this has now put Vodafone in breach of contract (the fact they have failed repeatedly to notify us of the bill amount despite raising the issue many times). The contract runs through to May 2015, and in all honesty I, and the other user of the phone, are so fed up with them we'd just love to end the contract now, but obviously without the pain of paying out for the remainder of the monthly costs.
Any thoughts, opinions, and advice would be greatly received.
Regards
Dan T
