Hmmm well I'm NOT a sunworshipper, I get too bored just lying there all day, and I tend to be fairly well covered up.....................yet as soon as the sun shines, I start to get tanned!!!
Don't forget though guys, just because you're covered up, does not mean you can not get burnt, the rays can penetrate some fibres too. I once had the pattern of my swimsuit tanned onto my skin!! :rolleyes:Honorary Northern Bird bestowed by AnselmI'm a Board Guide and volunteer to help get your forum questions answered and keep the forum running smoothly on Special Occasions, Green/Ethical, Motoring/Overseas/UK Travel & Flood boards, it's not part of my role to deal with reportable posts. We bought truckloads of this to take to Dominican Republic, we covered the kids in factor 50 and they burnt badly!!! They had the cream on for ten minutes before we reapplied as it was the first day of the hols and we sat in the shade...2 adults burnt also but they were careless when applying, the only reason I didn't burn was I have to have a factor 75 due to a skin condiiton so mine was off gp.
We had bought all ranges of no Ad especially as the adults intended to reduce factor for a tan.
we had to raid the shops for banana boat lotion and we were worried as they only had factor 40 BUT no burns and was only applied every half hour as we couldnt find the kids in the pool!!
We tried I once more in England and hubby burnt after 13 minutes in the sun so we binned them all and at 2p if you do buy them PLEASE PLEASE keep checking children as skin cancer isnt worth it.I wished upon a star tonight that I would see you once more,

Erm... Factor 50 and factor 75 ...
Is that a joke...
After factor 18 there is very little difference, because this is very close to total sunblock..
The very high factors (30+ ) are just a marketing gimmick..
At these high levels it is how much you use and how evenly you apply it that is critical .. Plus of course how often you re-apply, especially after swimming.. If you spend 15 mins drying off before you re-apply the suncream thats the equivalent burntime of sitting in the sun for over 7 hours with factor 30 lotion on !!!!
Make sure you get waterproof sun lotion or oil too or it will come off quickly through sweat leaving you with no protection.. Shockingly there are still some that are not water resistant on the market..
Remember too that old stock is often ineffective - this is why major retailers sell off the old stock at the end of the main season.. Those bargain bottles on the market could be old stock in which the active ingredients have deteriated !!!0 -
It was sunblock we had for the kids from the no-ad range and we applied it every 10minutes totally covering the kids and due to my skin I have to be covered with sun block and scarves and sit in the shade...
we were well aware how to protect kids the stuff was useless. Banana boat was a lower factor and two children tanned brown (there choice as teenagers) and my daughter remained blotchy white with red from the asda stuff not working. When we got home we contacted asda as we assumed sunblock was to stop any sun absorbing the skin, (of course with other factors, covering the skin, in the shade etc...and knowing 40 means fourty minutes under correct conditions) and they said we must have used it wrong. Fair enough BUT as I stressed here due to a skin condition I dont tan my skin and have cream from the hospital for summer so I was prepared for tropical climates for myself and children, I do know how to use sun creams and in my opinion prefer untanned skin as I'd rather have no tan than cancer so am a bit OTT I admit.
I was merely stating to be extra careful as the high factors were no good in my case nor the sunblock, and we bought it at the start of the season and as Simes correctly points out they do lose the potential to work efficiently ..I would hate someone to buy this and rely on it then have problems.
I hope no-one does get burnt and gets a bargain but I wanted to warn people it wasnt much good.I wished upon a star tonight that I would see you once more,
