URGENT: car inspection going on now!

I'm VT'ing my car and theres someone here on behalf of advantage finance (hes from SMA auctions) inspecting the car and hes nitpicking the hell out of it

If I dont' agree with the inspection report, can I refuse to sign it? Whats the best thing to do to avoid being ripped off here? The cars in good nick for a 5 year old car and I think hes going to fleece me for excessive unnecessary faults?

Take photos of any damage he reports (while he's still there).

If you don't agree with any statement he asks you to sign, alter it or delete the parts you're not happy with. Initial the alterations.

If it's a reputable leasing company, there's an industry-wide set of guidelines for what is fair wear and tear.

Ah ok yes I'll do that and mark them - the only one I agree with so far is rust on the inside of the rear passenger door but thats it!

If it's raining take a leather out and wipe away the water before you photograph it. You don't want them claiming the rain hid the marks in your pic.
  • Ok he's done - it actually turned out not as bad as I was expecting - he put all the faults into his PDA thing and sent it to print and it only printed one line so he's left it at that??!

The only thing that was printed in the end was a scratch on the tailgate which is absolute nonsense - its tiny and it was alongside other similar little scratches as you would expect on the edge of a boot but for some reason that one is chargeable - £136! I have put a dispute on that stating fair wear and tear and taken a photo of it which you can barely see it its that ridiculous! Will refuse to pay that but otherwise thankfully we lucked out that his machine wasnt working properly it seems?!

  • £136 doesn't seem that bad considering there's rust on the car.

No not too bad but that £136 is just for this miniscule scratch - madness!

So how much is the rust costing?

Hopefully nothing, should've been dealt with by a dealer under some sort of rust guarantee.

My car's in at the moment as I spotted some tiny dimples in the paint work. Had it four years and the manufacturer/dealer is footing the bill.

    Absolutely nothing

The only thing hes printed on the report that I signed was this scratch costing £136.40
