Pay as you go / cheapest 'first top up'

Options
I need a new mobile phone number so I've been looking at sim-only PAYG deals (I don't need a handset) - the cheapest 'first top up' needed to activate the sim seems to be £10, I was wondering if there was any cheaper deals that anyone is aware of? Any info would be great!

Thanks,

Adam

    I was in your situation and chose 'giffgaff' but kept my old O2 number. On the basic PAYG you get a free five pounds on the sim. I topped up by 10 quid two months ago and still have 12 quid credit. :j

    Giffgaff to Giffgaff calls are free if you do a top up within 3 months.

    O2 were charging me 15 quid a month so I think giffgaff is a great deal. ;)

    You dont get an extra £5 if you sign up direct only via a referal.

    Then if you dont take a bundle you pay 10p a minute for calls and 6p a text.

    However if your just looking for a sim to mainly take incoming calls only.

    Giffgaff dont require you to make a chargeable transaction every x number of days.

    Providing you recieve at least 4 mobile calls of 10 seconds or more every 180 days no need to top up further..

    Clause 13.3 of the giffgaff Terms & Conditions state:

    13.3. Your SIM Card will be disconnected unless, at least once every six months, your Account is used to:
    a) make at least one call, SMS or MMS to another number (not including calls to emergency services or Member Services);
    b) make at least one connection to the Internet;
    c) make at least 4 received calls of more than 10 seconds;
    d) make at least one airtime credit or Bundle purchase; or
    e) receive Payback Points.

    You can find lots of people selling sims cheaply with credit on. That doesnt make that network the cheapest to top up on.

    I got a free 5 quid credit when I signed up so you do, as I had no referral !! ;)

    Here is the link that states it. You get it as soon as you activate the sim and top up first time, as I did.
