recently switched from an iphone 5 to a samsung s5 on EE.
no complaints about the phone but just a query on the android software.
i notice it is running on android 4.4.2 and understand that 4.4.4 was relaeased a while back. also read today about the release on android lollipop presumably called something like android 5.0??
how and when do these UK handsets receive software upgrades and bearing in mind i have not been offered 4.4.4 will i get the chance to upgrade to lollipop?
many thanks.

download and run Samsung kies , its a horrible , but necessary proggy , when you do manage to sync your phone , you can go to updates.
if an update is available for your phone it will d/load it
when finished remove the proggy , as it takes command of your phone when you plug it in0 -
When you would receive android 5 is anyones guess, keep on searching the net, googles own devices are first then other devices are further down the list.0

Google releases the code (done), Manufacturer works on the code, Carrier approves the code. The update is then released. Samsung are the people with the timescale for your phone...0

Updates are via settings software update on the phone over the air or as said Kies /
5/L Probable start rollout end 2014 for S5 .0 -
I might be remembering wrong, but I'm sure I saw an article saying April/May 2015 for the S5. Touchwiz always causes a delay, and there were apparently issues to get Touchwiz ART compatible (and ART is now compulsory in 5.0).
I suppose until Samsung actually publicise a date it's all just guessing by tech journalists.====0 -

Samsung or the carrier may choose not to update the code, regardless of what Google release, so it may never be released.
Its also possible that different carriers have different variants, so Vodafone may approve 4.4.4 but O2 only ever approve 4.4.2 so you will never get an upgrade.
Its possible to flash a phone with a different version or even the stock firmware but to do so risks bricking a phone and will certainly void your warranty with the network (been there, done that, had a hardware repair that was not software related refused because I'd changed the firmware!)0 -
If 5 is due soon then networks may skip 4.4.4
