Breaching the T&Cs and also creating a type of transaction historically used by money launderers, giving the card issuers two reasons to freeze the account.Load your Clarity card with the amount of cash you originally thought of taking with you, thus avoiding any interest charges.

Leaving the cardholder stranded. Potentially.
Brilliant.0 -

Not really worth it. If you use your Clarity wisely then the interest changed will be negligible. The danger with loading the card is that if anything goes wrong then you may find it hard to access the money.0 -

Perhaps you had better advise the Halifax staff, I have preloaded my Clarity card more than once and have never had a problem. I will be doing it again next week!

As they aren't my problem, I'll pass.Perhaps you had better advise the Halifax staff
I hope your run of good fortune continues.I have preloaded my Clarity card more than once and have never had a problem. I will be doing it again next week!
The risks outweigh the pennies in interest saved for me.0 -

Wait for the post... "I'm stranded overseas without access to any money"
Glad you have gotten away with it so far but it does breach their T&C's. Not sure I'd rely on this as a sole method of getting funds whilst overseas just in case they decide to freeze your card use. For what the small amount of interest costs for a Halifax Clarity cash withdrawal, hardly worth breaching their conditions of use and risking a problem.0 -

you think breaching their t and c is a good idea and then advocating others to do the same.
It costs me pennies in interest to use it properly.
you may get away with it forever you may not, is it really worth it0 -
I raised your questions today while making a deposit, the chappy behind the counter said there was no problem doing what I was doing and he would raise the matter with the Halifax about the T&Cs on their website. Will any thing happen? Who knows!

I would wager that he's not worked in the part of the business that designs credit cards. I'd hazard a guess that he's never worked in the part of the business responsible for the automated detection of fraud and money laundering. I'd also hazard a guess that he doesn't even have a a Halifax Clarity Card - although I'm taking a bit of a punt with that one.
If he's sent a communication to the Credit Card blokes in Cardiff, or wherever it is they are based these days, he'll eventually get a reply back explaining why the T&Cs exist and why he shouldn't encourage customers to preload.
It will include information very similar to that supplied in this thread.
As previously stated, the risks outweigh the pennies in interest saved0 -

So are you going to hold the chap behind the counter responsible when your card is lost or stolen when you are abroad and cannot access the credit balance that is on your account?
If you do the numbers then you will realise that your plan will only save you a few pounds in a best case scenario but the downside could be major inconvenience and loss of funds.0 -

The cost for us using a Clarity for cash and purchases on a recent trip to Australia lasting a month was 72p0
