EE promising non-existent discounts etc.

My experience and a friend's experience..

I was told I could take my old number with me. Signed up. Next person told me I couldn't take it. Cancelled Sign up. Get a phone call a week or so later and in the course of the chat he tells me I can take the number. Already signed up with BT in the meantime!

My friend is promised free line installation. Signs up. Next EE person she speaks to tells her there is a £30 charge.

Wading through these phone chats takes a good hour in which different people repeatedly ask us to repeat the same info we've already told the last person.

  • The moral of the story is - if you are offered something take it. any discount not advertised is an additional offer, not a right. What normally happens is, if you don't take it there and then then it may not be available on the next call. usually the CS advisers have discretion to apply, or not, certain offers but they are also bound by limits too in respect to what and how much they can offer additionally.

In your case, if you are keeping your number then you are doing what is called an active line takeover. doing this means there is no charge as its not a new line or a new provide.

Some of the providers will tell you they can't take over your number as it does generate more revenue for them as they can then charge for a new line.

Stick to wanting to keep your number in the move and there should be no charge for that and no "new line" costs.

Did your friend elect or agree to change his number?
