Are Sky ok for broadband? I am on infinity with BT. No Virgin in my area

I'm interested in opinions, too. I am on BT Infinity 2 and it is now costing us around £60 month for unlimited internet, free landline calls and includes the line rental which I paid a year in advance last November. The discounted landline is now due to be paid up front again, now, and although I can't fault the internet speed, the cost seems to be crazy?
  • Yeah my line rental is also up for renewal.
They seem to offer good deals for new customers but not loyal ones!
I really would like to know if SKY email is any good

Sky have been fine for me, been with them for a few years.
Have used a variety of providers in the past, including BT

Speed okay for me, approx 12Mbps, no fibre available in my area.

Happy that it is unlimited as regularly go through more than 100GB a month.

Have a Sky email account but never use it.

Although I can't get fibre I currently pay less than £50 for unlimited broadband, line rental, calls and TV package with Sky.

Only an idiot uses ISP provided email accounts when there are plenty free ISP independent ones to choose from, making switching ISP's very easy.

ISP account are junkmail accounts, only used so that your main email accounts don't get loads of spam!

You don't have to use webmail. Set up an email client to handle your mail just how you want it.

A bit harsh, there is nothing wrong with using ISP email if you have had it for years, but I agree it is better to move away to a free independent email to make switching a lot easier.

OP, look for a free email that allows IMAP protocol, this means you can use email software and webmail easily and still see all your messages whichever method you use.

    I do use thunderbird.
But when I go abroad I only have my ipad and iphone and I have great difficulty sending emails through the BT mail app. They block most of the countries I have been.
How to get around this please?

I have no problem sending emails from a Gmail account, or Yahoo, or some of the others I use including my own domain.

I've had Sky for just over a year, following several good years with O2. I cannot get or need fibre, but my ADSL speed went up from just under 5Mb to 6.

It did drop, after six months to just over 5, but is currently 5.65 and sufficient for my usage.

I have only had two losses of service; one about a year ago, for less than an hour and one this weekend, for about the same. Last year, a friend in another county found her Sky broadband down at the same time and it was this last year, so perhaps an annual system thing.

I have never used my ISP's email and currently use Hotmail.

It's Sky "Yahoo" email. Open a yahoo account instead!!

You will have the same experience without the need to worry about your email address expiring as and when you decide to leave Sky.

Don't see a point in restricting oneself to a BB provider's free email address, that has a potential expiry date.
  • Why not try it first? Anyone can sign up to skys email service on their homepage. You don't need to be a sky customer.

Personally I use Hotmail and Gmail as well for the reasons others have stated above.
