Giving Young Kids Coke

Tooth decay is the number one cause for children having a hospital stay in the UK.
In my area 50% of children have decay by the time they are five.
What this says is that , as a country , we are making the wrong choices for our children.
You can brush 27 times a day but you will still get decay if you eat , or drink, anything with sugar in it more than three times a day. Even a sip, even just a bite. The average child in the UK eats more than seven times a day.
In general, it is not the parents who put coke in a bottle who are the majority with children with decay but parents who give fruit juice, smoothies , or bake homemade flap jacks with honey, or use agave syrup or "natural sweeteners " or give raisins or dried fruit as snacks , or yoghurts , all done as they believe these are healthy choices.
The simple truth is eat and drink what you like with a meal as part of that meal (including coke if you must) but in between water, milk as drinks and snacks with no sugar (whole ,undried fruit, vegetables , cheese etc.) .0 -
Where is the money saving element in this?
If there isn't one, then this discussion should be in The Money Savers Arms Board.
And they neglected to write it correctly as a trademark - Which could at very least cause great offence to its lawyers and at worst cost this site (and maybe the OP) a significant amount of money in restitution!
Very bad form!0 -

My near 3 year old daughter mainly has full fat milk, only time she something like orange juice or a smoothie is if we're eating out, at a party or a friends house. Would Never give her coke or anything like that. Mate of mine from the poor end of the socio economic scale just feeds his kid fruit shoots, and coke and wonders why they have hyperactivity horrible teeth and makes sons autism harder to cope with. I don't think its a cause of the country going to the dogs, its a symptom. Poor education of some parents that in an ideal world should never be allowed to have kids ( im no expert but I reckon the kids autism caused by constant smoking of cannabis whilst pregnant) Whilst any Jeremy kyle type can have kids it will be a constant cycle. I reckon instead of child benefit, adults should be paid not to have kids, so the ones that do will generally be ones that want them and had more foresight in to planning. Won't happen though, society needs more poor people to carry on the debt cycle but that's for another rant.0

People have been lulled by advertising to believe they are being healthy giving their kids fruit shoots, because they Have no added sugar. Thirty years ago when I had babies, I was lucky to understand then that it was best for my kids to only drink very watered down fruit juice or water. I don't think you can generalise from a one off.0

You don't need to add sugar when fruit juice is present, it has sugar that will rot teeth just as easily. The average fruit shoot has five spoonfuls of sugar a bottle . http://www.whatisinfood.com/product/fruit-shoots/
Look on food ingredients , sugar is listed under carbohydrates and roughly 5g is a teaspoon.
Petit filous is marketed as healthy as are most yoghourts , frubes, from age frais. Yet a tiny pot has two and a half spoons of sugar. http://www.nutracheck.co.uk/CaloriesIn/Product/12/Yoplait+Petits+Filous+Raspberry+%26+Strawberry+Fromage+Frais+6+x+50g#.VF-nLGIgGSM0 -

Q: Why are some Board Guides sometimes unpleasant?
A: We very much hope this isn't the case. But if it is, please make sure you report this, as you would any other forum user's posts, to forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com.0 -
I am a mother whose child you might see drinking coke or a fixzy drink out this is because when we are out this is the only time ds is allowed them as a treat. I do not allow/have any fizzy drinks in the house. To others that might look bad as people like the op will assume that is what he is given all the time! I will only let him have full sugar version he is not allowed sweeteners.
I must admit it does have too much fruit juice at homehe is a fussy eater and fruit juice is one of the things he will have I give it to him at least half fruit juice half water but I know that's still not good it's a juggling act with a fussy eater the only fruit he will eat is dried raisens do I give them to him or not give him any fruit at all, he normally has a small packet a day.
