Doesn't surprise me, as a service it isn't as widely used as it was. .
Also with the requirements that are placed on them to screen content then the best option is to drop the service and let 3rd party (normally offshore) suppliers provide the service at a cost.This is a system account and does not represent a real person. I was a very active usenet user from 2400 baud modem days.
Can I ask why you would need usenet now? - I understood from others that the only point to it now was for rip off binaries - movies and softwarez etc. and all the useful people had migrated elsewhere (like here of course!)
I am now thinking fondly of alt.possessive.its.has.no.apostrophe....0 -

Forums mostly. I did like the structure of usenet and the fact that every topic under the sun was in one place. Also the subject "experts" were in one place rather than scattered around 1000 forums like now....0

Virginmedia has a half decent newserver too, it is contracted out though, maybe why its half decent.
