Do I need mac code to leave Talk Talk?

I have broadband only with Talk talk under one of their old Tiscali contracts for many years. I have my phone line with BT.

I have had a letter advising me that my broadband will be going up £5 to £20 which is not cheap at all! Our broadband has been rubbish for ages, really slow and the router keeps overheating.

Can you advise how I go about changing as I never have before. I am confused about the mac code thing. Do I need one or not?
Also who would you recommend changing to for fast broadband?
Thank you

yes you would need a MAC as you're not on TalkTalk's full LLU service as you have your phone rental with BT. So phone up and get that - you may get a good offer to stay if you want to. Otherwise take your MAC and sign up with another BB provider. BT is actually doing a good deal until the 10th with BB at £7.50pm and an £80 Sainsbury's voucher if you sign up online.

Fast BB depends on what is available in your exchange. Some exchanges will give you fibre BB which is obviously faster. Go here and check what you can get.

What you will have to be careful of is why you are getting a slow speed. It may not be down to TalkTalk and may be your wiring. If this is the case then moving will not sort that unless you do opt for Fibre BB where there is some sort of installation involved with new wiring.
