I'm taking my car to France for five months but am struggling to find breakdown cover. Most will only do maximum of 90 days.

Any tips/recommendations?

What is ADAC? I've looked on Google and get a German company who only sell to German residents. Is that what you meant?

Yes I meant the ADAC and membership is open to anyone, anywhere in the world.

You have to phone them as their on-line membership can only recognise German postcodes.

If you need breakdown or recovery service anywhere in the world you make one phone-call to an English speaking ADAC operator, and they send whichever national breakdown is appropriate.

If you took AA or RAC cover at some astronomic cost they too would be doing the same thing.

So as an ADAC member you get the AA in the UK, the ACF in France, the OAMTC in Austria etc.

If you join the ADAC you get much wider cover than the AA or RAC can provide - at any price.

ADAC membership plus costs €84 for single membership and €109 for yourself and partner - valid for any car, anywhere for a full year.

Check this page - if you use google Chrome then it will be automatically translated into English if you click on that option.

Have a look at insuring your car with a French insurance company as they give european breakdown cover for about 25€ a year.
They will insure UK reg cars.

Thanks for the info but my UK insurance already covers me for 180 days in Europe (which is great!)

I tried that a few years ago and couldn't get French insurance as I didn't have a permanent address in France and they wouldn't accept my 3 month house rental agreement.

Hi Iceweasel - just rang them and they said they only offer breakdown cover to German residents :(

Not sure if this is a new thing but the website says the same.

I'm pretty sure that's a load of rubbish you've been told.

Can you give me a link for the website page where it says that?

When you try and sign up here it will only allow German addresses:

And, as I say, I just rang them!
