Hi guys
Bit of a long story but I am trying to sort out my other half credit file.
Bit of back story for you good folk to suggest something.
There is issues between him and another person with an identical full name and date of birth but both people born in differing parts of the country. This other person keeps taking out PDL after PDL and that means my other half credit file is to the dogs as they don't pay anything back after taking out the loans so it just goes into default.
The other persons address is smattered all over his report as well and it doesn't help that some companies that we are disputing with are now linking their address with our address
Some cases are with the ombudsman now after reaching impasse and we are awaiting their response.
Its just an uphill battle and whilst I like doing this I have been at it for well over half a year now and more and more just keep getting added so its a never ending cycle.
Last night when i saw four more defaults that was it and the only way I can see this getting resolved sooner rather than later is to change his name via deed pole from John Adam smith (not real name but 3 equally common names) to John Adam Galle (not a real suggestion but its odd enough for this example to work).
Anyone else who has battled for so long know if this is a good idea to at least try and stem the flow of inaccurate data because at the moment it like trying to hold water in a sieve?
Part of me thinks that it not work but I'm at my wits end as they want to buy a house with me and i am not under any circumstances being linked to him when his account is such a mess even if it isn't through any fault of his own.
Thanking you as always

No because once you notify a lender of the change if name they will inform the the credit reference agencies who will then create an alias on the credit report.Im an ex employee RBS GroupHowever Any Opinion Given On MSE Is Strictly My Own0

These aren't his loans and defaults so in theory they want ever know his name has been changed surely and will apply them to the correct persons account and not his as it won't show up when they put his name into the computer?0

I cannot see that this would help at all.
If your partner changes his name then his credit file will show his new name and his old name in the alias/previous name section. And so won't remove the links. And any new links could still be created due to the alias.
Very frustrating what you are going through though. If he can get all the incorrect entries removed from his 3 agency files then hopefully the new links should stop. It is likely that this will all stem from a single incorrect link up by one creditor.
If he can get it clean then I wonder whether CIFAS protective registration would make it harder for a new link to be created in future? that may be something to look in to?
Have you got all 3 of the credit reference agencies investigating this? have you reported the errors to all 3?A smile enriches those who receive without making poorer those who giveor "It costs nowt to be nice"0 -
Bummer. I don't think it will ever get sorted as its like talking to a wall as they say it has to be you as the dob / name is identical and this is how much you defaulted on etc.
I will look into CFIAS protective markers now just in case they can be useful. Thanks for the heads up0 -

Once they tell their real lenders of the change of name it'll all get linked up on their credit report.
Surly you can prove to the credit reference agencies and the lenders that they have never lived at the said address
They should in the meantime add a notice of correct to prevent it happening again or speak to CIFAS as suggested.Im an ex employee RBS GroupHowever Any Opinion Given On MSE Is Strictly My Own0 -

They just see the name / dob match and thats it. We have argued this point and sent proof but all they then do is just link to this address instead.
Its so bad I have to laugh or I would cry0 -

Surely you could ask for copies of the credit agreements to enable you to view the signature. Then once you have this information send them a copy of a passport or driving license so they can also see the signatures does not match to support the case.Im an ex employee RBS GroupHowever Any Opinion Given On MSE Is Strictly My Own0 -
I like it. This is why I love you guys. I would have never thought of that0

Since you're not the person in question, they wouldn't be able to send you copies of the agreement. Even if they did I don't think signatures prove anything.
Really you want a copy of his birth cirtificate to prove that you are two different people.Changing the world, one sarcastic comment at a time.0 -
There is an Experian representative on this forum, perhaps they could provide some additional insight in how to solve this problem?Changing the world, one sarcastic comment at a time.0
