I've just met a pal who received a parking charge from the same UKPC which charged the two folks in the Courier's article.

They decided to nip to the Gallagher retail park last night just before closing time in the dark and rain as their kids were with family so they could get some Xmas presents on the quiet. They said they were in one store for about 25 minutes, got what they need and returned to the car to find an early Xmas present you don't want. They didn't get a ticket from the machine as it was so late on in the day and the car park was pretty much empty.

The ticket says they can contact UKPC within 14 days and 'only' pay £60 or it's £100 thereafter.

They're not sure whether to send an email/letter referencing the charge number only ( no address ) and reject the charge as it's disproportionate & excessive or just ignore it completely. They were wondering how UKPC would get their adress for any follow up harassment. Can UKPC get their address details from the DVLA ?

    Your thoughts ?

You need to read the Sticky thread for NEWBIES at the top of the main page, then start your own thread, not hijack someone else's.

The NEWBIES thread answers all your questions.

Do you realise just how busy this forum gets? We don't have time to juggle different people's questions on the same threads! So people either start there own or get ignored - which would you prefer?

Touchy much? Wasn't snarky at all, simply informed you how to go about getting help here.

By having one query for each thread, the poster can find the advice which is directed at them. If everyone posted all in the same thread , or even just two in the same thread, how would you know which advice refers to you. Those that help would have no idea if they have missed anyone.
Apology due to the experts I think.
I'd rather be an Optimist and be proved wrong than a Pessimist and be proved right.

You have misread into the post that which was not there.

I hope you have read the NEWBIES thread now and have told your friend what do to.

(CLUE - it doesn't involve contacting anyone :D)

Does you friend habitually not bother paying in P&D car parks or was this a one off?

The snotogramme wasn't from the poster who asked the question to whom I replied, but some random poster who took offence on behalf of someone else.

The poster in question didn't respond but did start their own thread where they were supplied with further advice.

I would have thought that someone who wrote this would understand why it's not a good idea to hijack someone else's thread.
Edited due to total lack of reading comprehension brought on by three children talking to me at once!

Anyone asking about parking on private land should be directed to the NEWBIES thread as their one stop shop for information.

As already explained by others, if a poster asks a question on someone else's thread it gets very confusing as to whom the answers are directed at. It is quite possible that someone will take incorrect action because they believed information was directed at them when in fact it was aimed at someone else.

Suppose someone asked where the milk was in a supermarket and then someone else asked where the baked beans were. If an employee then answered, aisle 14, how would each customer know if that is where the milk was or where the beans were.
Giving customers a map of the store layout would help the majority of customers without the need for each person to ask the same questions again and again.
That's what the experts here have done and that is advice I gave to the postor, who did not take offence and did exactly what was asked.

So it was - my apologies for not paying attention.
