Replacement for Trianco 28/32 oil boiler

I finally have to replace my trusty Trianco boiler after 25 years of loyal service and need suggestions for the best replacement. My requirements as follows

1. I have a power shower so no condensing boilers please
2. I have what I believe is called an 'open' central heating system with a tank in the loft that serves the radiators and boiler.
3. Need something energy efficient that will serve me for many years with regular servicing (as I am nearing retirement I want peace of mind).

I have heard good reports about Worcester boilers, do they offer something suitable? or is there another manufacturer that anyone could recommend.

Sorry don't understand the comments about no condensing boilers. You have to fit one it's the law.

The new range Worcester oil boilers are the most reliable boilers you can get and Worcester's back up is second to none.

I think that the OP means combi boiler. It's quite a common confusion.

Agreed, OP means 'no combi boilers' as all boilers are condensing these days.

I suggest you read WHICH who have a comprehensive review of boilers, including 63 oil boilers and also a section on how to choose the correct boiler for your property.

You can pay £1 to read on-line, or visit a library, if not a member of WHICH

If you have funds and are planning to stay in the property for some years it would be worth considering replacing the oil boiler with an Air Source Heat Pump which extracts heat from the air (just like a fridge or freezer does), or a biomass (wood pellet) boiler (although they need more space).

It will probably cost about twice as much as replacing the oil boiler BUT since the government will give you money for every unit of renewable energy you create for 7 years under the RHI scheme, it's possible that the entire cost of the installation could be covered by the money you receive. The exact numbers will depend on the theoretical amount of energy you would need to heat your house as shown on your EPC, but I have made the switch from oil to ASHP and it's definitely worth looking at.

  • Biomass will be your best option, especially with the rhi payments you will earn money from it aswell
