Rampant Recycler I've been Money Tipped!
Thank you everyone for reassuring me :) I really appreciate it.

I have never ever been overdrawn so you can imagine I was surprised when I checked my account yesterday!

I worry about money. I shouldn't. I get paid well enough. I put 40% of my pay into a savings account for the new house so my disposable income is a lot less than what it was this time last year (although I will see more benefits from my savings in the coming months)

If I got charged for it, I could afford it with the money I have saved, no problem. But I worry. I have £50 on my credit card and I'm worrying about it, even though I can more than afford to pay it off.

I give myself £150 every month to do what I want with. I think my panic is coming from Christmas and the fact that people want to go out and do things and they won't let me say no (I've said no countless times but they won't accept it), but that's another story.

Sorry this has become a bit of a rant. I said to OH that I feel like I'm struggling even though it's clear that I/we're not.

So long as the account gets re-credited the same day it is OK if it does not you lose the £5.

    Wrong...
I was in the very same scenario and I lost the £5.
I called Halifax and they told me even if I go overdraft and cover it in the very same day it would still trigger the system to not pay in the £5 reward.

If you go overdraft even for just 1 second you lose the £5 reward.

Are you sure? Whilst the buffer does vary depending on the precise account, Halifax say on their own website in regards to a standard current account

    http://www.halifax.co.uk/bankaccounts/current-accounts/other-bank-accounts/current-account/ (click on Overdraft tab)

Yes, Halifax's £10 buffer works differently. Halifax's buffer applies to the first £10 of an overdraft. Lloyds and BoS have their £10 buffer at your overdraft limit.

Then we have very different experiences as I have been OD accidentally when a payment was taken earlier than expected covered this immediately and I still got the £5.

here it is from their site

pay in £750 or more each calendar month and
have a minimum of two different direct debit mandates paid from your Reward Current Account each calendar month and
have not had a debit balance (planned or unplanned) by the end of any day during the calendar month

    http://www.halifax.co.uk/bankaccounts/rates-rewards-fees/

The crucial bit I think is end of the day which I don't think is when the natural day ends but when their day ends which may be something stupid like 4pm.
I started with nothing and I am proud to say I still have most of it left.
