I'm not saying anything about physio on crutches. I was replying to the posts about how can she be having treatment without a diagnosis. All I'm saying is that it's perfectly possible, even desirable to treat symptoms without knowing what's causing them. Especially if it's going to take a while to get that diagnosis.
Unless I say otherwise 'you' means the general you not you specifically.

Just about every time you give a febrile child calpol, that's what you are doing.

When one of my daughters was first in hospital for bronchiolitis, they treated the symptoms (with calpol and oxygen) before they had a diagnosis.

Same with physical symptoms. You might not know *why* something is happening but you can still treat it to stop further damage or make the patient more comfortable or whatever.

I believe it was the registrar at A&E who gave her crutches and initially told her not to put weight on the foot. then the physios told her to put some weight on the foot. they were concerned that long term she would have more problems and they wanted a definitive diagnosis - not the tentative one from A&E (I think they disagreed with it).

hi LIR - not yet, but she has been back to A&E &GP this week, the poor lass has had a bad migraine and a water infection since last Thursday. GP has told her to go to opticians to have them examine her eye - she had apt today so I will be ringing DD in a short while to ask. will update later.

opticians say her eyes are fine - no nerve damage or pressure and her eyesight hasn't changed at all............so that can be ruled out. her water infection is getting better but her headache isn't. she is still waiting for appointment with her ankle! DD is going to have to chase that up. but right now she has her DD off ill and her OH had a shoulder op on Monday - so she is run ragged!
