Broadband and phone package, what one?

Hi, I have contacted my current provider BT as I am paying a lot for my broadband and phone package compared to what they offer new customers. Even after speaking to them they could only reduce the price as an existing customer by £10 and basically if not happy go to another provider.
I understand that all providers put out "good" prices to get customers but surely by keeping existing customers happy they are still getting money in each month.
I have read lots of posts on MSE and some of the stories sound like nightmares so I am confused as to who is going to be the best one to pick, can anyone advise me?

I'm very happy with Sky, despite dreading moving to them when O2 gave up it's broadband provision.
My first year was free tv, free broadband , cheap paid in advance line rental (Under £10/month) and calls almost all covered by a £50 credit, so after this I wasn't expecting much of an offer to stay. However, after three attempts , I managed to obtain free line rental, £7.50 broadband and £5/month for anytime calls. (tv at half price) Without tv , the broadband would have been £10.0
