Parking on private land

So why then did you completely ignore the posting conditions/ettiquite you agreed to in your signup and pitch-up with a contentious post on a totally unrelated thread?
That's pretty troll-tastic behaviour, no...?
And its certainly not going to get you taken very seriously.
No, I don't believe it was "Troll-tastic behavior. I asked a perfectly reasonable question to a person who I believed to have the skill set to shed light on a solution. I'm not going to keep reiterating my thoughts, what's done is done and now I've moved on its been forgotten.0 -
I understand you frustration and I'm sure we have all suffered at some point or other as the result of idiot drivers who take double spaces because they have no idea how to park their oversized SUV or believe that their little darlings deserve all that extra space and prevent you from opening you driver's door.
That aside, whilst that may be both ignorant and damn inconvenient bringing in a company dedicated to emptying the pockets of anyone and everyuone they can and inevitably at the expense of the landowner is neither reasonable, nor responsible and is certainly not proportionate. The actions of these companies make it as clear as it could be possible that inspite of their claims to protect the interests of landowners the only real interest they have is in lining their pockets. This is about them making money off your back to your detriment (and everyone else). In all respects they bear the hallmarks of a parasite.
Barriers can be an obstruction to pedestrians but only if you make them so. As already pointed out pedestrians need a far narrower space to walk through then is necessary for a car. So leave a space.
If you run a permit scheme why not charge people for a keyfob to open the barrier? They cannot be readily copied and if lost generate revenue for the replacement. Lost keyfobs can simply be locked out. Using a driver-over raised grating at exit and a single, keyfob-operated barrier at the entrance you could keep costs down too. If you find you have spare spaces why not rent them out on an annual basis?
Quite why people think that penalising people is the easy answer when preventing them from doing what you don't want is far more effective I don't know? Perhaps it is because PPC sales people infect our roads leaping on the smallest opportunity to exploit?
Even with space left pedestrians walk under closing barriers, this I have seen on multiple occasions. Barriers are an expensive option both with installation and maintenance. I think we have a good solution to keep the car park free flowing and tidy and it will offer someone a job. The revenue from the car park will just about pay their wages.

I think your original post could have been worded a lot better if you wanted advice on your situation.
Something like:
Your original post came of as a bit of an attack on coupon-mad to be honest.Hi there, I'm a landowner that operates a car park. I don't want to employ a PPC but we lose revenue due to unpaid parking, does anyone have advice on how I can improve things?0 -

Possibly. My original post on another thread stated - "And what about us private car park owners who have to suffer idiot parking and lost revenue..."0 -

" There's no such thing as a stupid question..."
The MoneySavingExpert.com forum is a place to share info and tips with others, discuss MoneySaving and pick up ways to save. We hope you'll enjoy it, but ask you to remember it's a broad church with many different types of people. Follow these basic rules to make it a good place to be.
Please be nice to all MoneySavers : There's no such thing as a stupid question and, even if you disagree, courtesy helps.
Please be sensitive : This may be a web forum, but you're still talking to other human beings. Repeatedly or harshly saying someone's wrong, especially on boards like DebtFreeWannabe, Bankruptcy or Benefits, can lead to upset.
We're proud that many people whose financial problems exacerbate mental health issues seek help in the forum, but this means you may be berating someone who's clinically depressed. Please think twice before posting judgmental comments.
Don't feed the trolls : Sadly the web has a habit of throwing up a very small but vocal number of trolls, people who are nasty or contrary just to get a rise out of you. If someone's doing this, simply don't reply, just report it to forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com. If you get involved and fling mud back, you risk being barred from using the forum too.
Take care over copyright : Use excerpts and links rather than copying long text. This site asserts copyright on all comments posted on the board.0 -
quietcarlos,
Many of us who post regularly on here have been the subject of troll attacks and abusive behaviour. Your initial post did not differentiate you from any of the posters who have exhibited this kind of behaviour and indeed appeared to be a personal attack on c-m by implying she wasn't one of the intelligent people to who you referred.
I think a little leeway should now be given by all sides instead of trying to score points.I married my cousin. I had to...I don't have a sister.

Thank you Fruitcake, I understand and agree with what you are saying but if you read my original post before I opened up this thread, you would see she tried to ridicule me without inquiring how she could help.
I have no axe to grind nor an ego that needs to be massaged and I certainly don't need to score points. In my line of work I deal with a vast number of people from all walks of life and ethnic backgrounds and I speak to them as I wish to be spoken to and 99.99% of the time its amicable. I do not however suffer fools gladly nor will I be ridiculed.
I also stated in an earlier post that I had drawn a line under it and moved on, I posted the rules to reiterate them to all.
Thank you again for your useful input on this thread.0
