  • No really Mummy I do :(:(:(. Disappointed I still look so big and dread to think what I looked like before. It's put me on a real downer, and my day has not improved.

Boys wanted to go swimming but the pool we usually go to (where DH and I go to the gym) wasn't open this morning. Decided to go to another local pool run by the same chain. I knew the boys annual cards needed renewed and I didn't have much cash on me, so I took my debit card. Of course when I got there, the card machine wasn't working . Left DH and the boys at reception and went off in search of an ATM, which took around 15 mins. By the time I got back (panicked and flustered at leaving the 3 of them), the blinkin card machine was working again!! Next came the locker tokens that didn't work, which caused a trip back to reception in just swim things and DH getting moody over everything. When we finally got in the small pool, DH decided he wanted to swim some lengths in the big pool and by that point I was just wanting an easy time so I said go ahead. The pools are right next to each other in the same 'room' so I could see him anyway.
At that point, the girl who had been on reception came over and crouched by me at the side of the pool. I honestly thought she was going to make some form of apology for everything that had gone wrong, but she said "I've had a word with my Manager and next time you can't come in for free as Carer, because your Husband is in the other pool". I was dumbstruck. In 18 months at the other pool no one has ever said anything like that, but the way she said it made me feel criminal . All she had to say was "I'm sorry but to qualify as Carer you both have to be in the same pool" and I would have hauled DH back no problem. Told her there was no way we'd ever come back anyway and we all got straight back out of the pool. Had a word with the Manager on the way out too.

It's left me upset all day. Do you think I'm overreacting?? Tell me honestly please Xx

You're not over-reacting. Vote with your feet, stuff 'em. Fuming on your behalf. Mr SA has had similar sort of petty experience with Wetherspoons - for the past few weeks he has sat outside our local one with a coffee and the dog sitting quietly on his knee while I nip round the local shops. Last week a bar person pointed to a sign that said no dogs on the premises (even outside on the pavement seats!!). He was allowed to finish his coffee then had to go. So petty. Yet they say nothing to free range children running around inside the pub.

On a lighter note well done on the weight loss and very well deserved award :)

  • You are not over-reacting PLMBL - sounds like the receptionist was a proper jobsworth especially as she said that she had spoken to her manager rather then her manager had asked her to speak to you.
Does it really matter if you were in a different pool??

What did her manager say to you?
  • Thanks everyone. I wasn't sure if I'm just being overly sensitive. It's 2 years since I lost the twins and ended up in hospital, tomorrow should have been my Dad's 59th birthday and it will be the 9th year without him, and then I'm down on myself because of that photo. I seem to be having a lot of negative thoughts at the moment, and desperately hoping it will pass.

The Manager was actually very nice. I explained that I was complaining about the way things were said rather than the rule itself, and that it had completely ruined our experience. He agreed that the staff member should have handled things differently and said he would feed it back.

I realised during some of my counselling sessions that how other people see me as a person is very important to me. Not externally, but internally as a 'good' person. I hate it when people think I'm 'bad' or doing wrong, so perhaps I have reacted to that?? Interestingly, the counsellor pointed out that whilst I find it important that others see me as good, I never think of myself that way.

  • Trying to be more positive today, greatly helped by my neighbour delivering a large bowl of freshly picked blackberries and a courgette grown in his garden, along with £40 for winning the Scouts bonus ball last night :j:T:j.

Shame you had a bleugh experience at the pool - but look how the universe made up for it! :T

Perhaps worth knowing that you need to stick close to DH in such situations in future, to avoid being suspected of wrongdoing.. :(
Wonder if there are lots of fraudsters using that pool for cheap swimming sessions? Doesn't excuse Little Miss Hitler's attitude of course - hope she got an earful from the manager after you left!

Well done on the bonus ball! Karma!

  • Thank you both Xx Robin, the worst part is that at that particular pool the changing rooms are separated into Male/Female, so I actually spent more time apart from him then than we did in the adjacent swimming pools. Our regular pool has a mixed changing area so we normally all share a family change cubicle. Anyway, it's irrelevant as we won't be going back Xx
