As a pensioner I am fed up of Morrisons targeting families with their special offers.

I, as probably many others, if there are only 2 of us in the household I find it difficult to spend £40 each and every week in one go. I like my bread and veg fresh. If I do a big shop with soap powder, toilet rolls etc etc, I really don't need to buy them again for a few weeks.

Come on Morrisons, give us golden oldies a break now and again.

Trouble is you are not the type of customer they want.

Morrison, like all of the other supermarkets, are after the people who go into there stores and spend a lot of money with them.

Plus they hope you even spend even more and get hooked into spending your money there.

I know what you mean though. Look at Aldi always doing a £5 of £40 spend. I could never ever spend that much in one go there. So I lose out on that deal.

Max I spend on Food etc a week is between £15 to £22. So no good to the supermarkets, I am not rich enough.:o

I hardly think spending £40 of their £226.50 on some decent grub is going to leave them in penury. Or do you think they should be forcing a hospital food diet on themselves?[/

could you still continue to use the card as you would your old fuel card? I know it's not as many points as before but still better than nothing as I presume you already used the fuel card.

Yes you can, and if you have any points on your fuel card they can be transferred to the new match and more.

I thought their price match kicked in at £15? If your Morrison's shop is normally less than £15, then the chances are you are not the sort of customers they want!

It does, but what you have to watch out for is your shop must contain at least one 'comparable item' - so far none of mine has.

According to their website a comparable item is one that is on sale at all the other supermarkets listed in the same or similar size. Of course, you have no way of knowing what these items are...

loaf of bread or a pint of milk will cover that surely?

  • Most oldies claim they can't spend £40 because they are old and living on their own and are a pensioner, yet they go shopping same time everyday and probably spend £40 in a week in total.

    Thanks for the meaningless generalisation.

(£40 is not a terribly large shop for two. £15 for meat and fish, £10 for fruit and vegetables, £5 for dairy, £6 for a bottle of wine. That leaves less than £10 for 'unnecessary' and other bit and pieces.)

That's a bit harsh, we have no idea what they can afford to spend.
There are threads on this forum advising "How to feed a family of four for £7 a week" etc.etc. Some people just have less. You really can't just assume what is and isn't a terribly large shop for two people. We just don't know the OP's circumstances.
  • Recently I used my fuel card as usual. It was snatched away and the new card substituted. I do not wish to register this new card and have my shopping habits tracked so will not be availing myself of their new initiative I'm afraid.
