Morrisons Bonus

As a pensioner I am fed up of Morrisons targeting families with their special offers.

I, as probably many others, if there are only 2 of us in the household I find it difficult to spend £40 each and every week in one go. I like my bread and veg fresh. If I do a big shop with soap powder, toilet rolls etc etc, I really don't need to buy them again for a few weeks.

Come on Morrisons, give us golden oldies a break now and again.
make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.

Now they have match and more I don't know why they can't do £40 a week but with no requirement for it to be in one transaction. Or do spend £20 a week for 6 weeks and get £10 back as another option for those who spend less.

What about Marks and Spencer, Tesco, Sainsbury, Waitrose...?

Why should Morrison's act differently and cater for you? No-one else does. At least there are two in your household so are in a far better position than those with only one.

The Co-operative currently offer £1 coupons off £5 purchases to card holders.

(£40 is not a terribly large shop for two. £15 for meat and fish, £10 for fruit and vegetables, £5 for dairy, £6 for a bottle of wine. That leaves less than £10 for 'unnecessary' and other bit and pieces.)

There are only two of us in our household as well, but we spend a helluvalot more than £40 a week on food, toiletries, cleaning materials, washing powder, wine etc.

How much do you spend on your "big shop"? When Morrison's are doing their £40 offer, I make sure I spend just over £40 and no more. This maximises the percentage discount available. And if I'm short of the £40, I can usually find long life goods on offer that are worth stocking up on. I tend to buy things like shampoo and shower gel once a year when there is a good offer on. (I appreciate now everyone has the storage to do this).

How do you know how much money the OP has to spend? If someone is living on our miserly state pension £40 a week is significant.

I hardly think spending £40 of their £226.50 on some decent grub is going to leave them in penury. Or do you think they should be forcing a hospital food diet on themselves?

We've just received our new "Match & More" cards but having read all the small print I am certain that we won't bother using them as we never spend enough in Morrisons.

We are lucky to have 2 Aldis 2 Lidls 2 large Tescos plus 1 each of Asda Morrison and Sainsbury all within 5 miles of home. We visit most of them monthly for offers, Aldi and Lidl at least weekly for bulk shops plus specials. There is no one supermarket which meets all our needs. If it wasn't for their 4-packs of 2 ltr Lemonade I doubt we would visit Sainsburys at all as we find them very expensive apart from special offers. It's mainly for the cafe that we keep going back to Morrisons and with Tesco it's a case of only getting what can't be got elsewhere plus genuine offers. Tesco's cafes locally are going from bad to worse and expensive too compared with Morrisons cafes.

As much as I loathe Tesco's gimmicks of BOGOF and constant yellow labels at least their Clubcard gives points for spends of only £1 minimum. It's "Buyer Beware" & read the small print and check the price per kg or 100g. I've lost count of the times I've complained in Tesco when "Bigger Better Value" sizes of items have worked out dearer per kilogram or litre than smaller sizes. If they are guilty of playing games with their accounting practices why should we be surprised they play games against their victims....whoops, I mean customers. ;)

ALL loyalty cards are a tool to hook customers in and then make large profits from said customers. Savvy customers shop around and avoid getting hooked and fleeced. I guess it helps if you quite like shopping plus have a choice of nearby stores and then have the time and inclination to do the rounds.:o

I thought their price match kicked in at £15? If your Morrison's shop is normally less than £15, then the chances are you are not the sort of customers they want!

That's true, but I know of many people locally who do their basic shop weekly or twice weekly at Aldi or Lidl but still have a wander round the non-discounters getting the things which Aldi and Lidl might not stock plus any genuine offers. Shoppers have got wise lately and aren't quite so easily taken in as perhaps they once were.

Maybe if Morrisons really don't want that type of customer they should impose a minimum spend full stop and ban us from the cafe too as it is probably run as a loss leader especially the 2 for 1 deals on meals after 4pm.

could you still continue to use the card as you would your old fuel card? I know it's not as many points as before but still better than nothing as I presume you already used the fuel card.
