Right- I prefer natural/ no nasties products so here we go.

    1. Razorpits are brilliant if you shave or if you wax make your own sugaring. Sugar, water, lemons juice (Google recipe/ technique) cut up old jeans for strips, washing machine them and reuse every time. You can make enough sugar wax for several goes each time. Put on a bit of corn flour on legs before hand. Works out less than £1 instead of £6 to buy box of wax strips. Plus natural!

    2. Weleda baby cold weather balm instead of Elizabeth Arden 8 hour cream- £5 ish instead of £15 ish plus is made of natural stuff. If you think about lots of these products are made with mineral oils i.e. paraffin and petroleum jelly-would you eat these? The average woman absorbs 7lb of beauty products a year. Skin irritants SLES/Sls are in shower gels and shampoos! Plus know carcinogenic ingredients in many. Cancer increase anyone? If you want to have a look at research etc.. look at EWG's database Skindeep. I don't want to be a guinea pig for the massive companies. Anyhow, off my soap box on to last tip.

    3. I agree with organic coconut oil, hair, scalp, makeup remover. Brilliant.

    4. Buy a natural body brush for dry skin brushing pre shower/bath instead of exfoliant- most effective way to get smooth skin and kinder to water life and your wallet.

    5. Natural brands like Lily Lolo, Lavera, Green people and UNE makeup eyeshadows etc last if not as long but longer for me than MAC etc... (ex beauty product junkie!).
Green and minimal chemicals is the new black- I know a fair old bit about sustainability, specially energy and transport stuff. If I can help- please ask!
  • Hi Lexa34
So where do I get these makeup brands you mention?
I have not heard of them, but I swear by Mac shadows for longevity and have never had such a result from other expensive brands.
I will try the eight hour substitute, is it really as good on sore cuticles though?
  • Can anyone recommend an antiperspirant that works and dries really quickly.

I can't use sprays so I have been using sure and dove dry sticks, but they are wasteful because quite a bit is left in the bit that holds it.

I haven't used a roll on for ages, but can remember the one I used taking ages to dry.

I use some of the ideas posted here, and will be trying many more.

I use Sanex roll ons, last ages and work for me. I'm the same, can't use sprays they just don't work! Plus can get Sanex pretty cheap, they were half price in Tesco a while back for 86p each!
  • I'm good at Down-shifting grocery's! but wasn't every very good at using beauty products well!
So thanks to this discussion I have tried the Naturally Radiant brand in Superdrug (and was given lots of the products for Christmas) and it seems good.
So now I want to ask what is the best Down shift shampoo & conditioner. I have shoulder length, wavy/redishblonde hair. Any suggestions?

    Any other downshifts gratefully appreciated.
    Thank you!
