Which ISP to use?

I am in the process of moving to a new home. Currently have the £3.50 per month TalkTalk package, with £126 upfront "line rental". Started it in march, 12 month contract.

Logged in to the TT panel and began their move home wizard. Line rental is now £179 paid in full for the year. They say they will refund what's left of my old line rental payment as credit on their billing system.

With this massive price increase and generally awkward way they have set up this system I am thinking of changing providers. What is the the cheapest provider? I only need internet, nothing else. Thanks.

You won't get a bargain internet price without taking a company's phone line. In fact very few will provide stand alone broadband.

    Look at PlusNet first .
Will you lose the remaining TT advance line rental if you change supplier ??

There are plenty of companies that will provide internet on its own, because they are proper ISPs. You still need a working telephone line though, usually with BT.

I have my telephone with BT and get my internet service from A&A.

I do not buy on price.

But the OP is concerned about price; hence my comment that bargains are unlikely with standalone broadband.

O2 used to provide a bargain standalone BB service.

    Those were the days...

  • I agree with the poster who said avoid EE.

If you have any sort of technical problem you will end up talking to someone in India on a fuzzy line. They won't understand you and you won't be able to hear them. They won't be able to sort out your problem unless it's something so simple you could have looked it up on EE's website anyway.

If they realise they can't help you they'll suggest you email Customer Service. A day later Customer Service will email you back and suggest you ring Technical Support in India.

    Terrible.
