Hello all,
I have taken a EE contract with https://www.mobilephonesdirect.co.uk which included a LG G3. However I am not overly impressed with the performance of the handset which produces OS errors and seems to have a poorer single reception than my previous Samsung phone.
They claim I am unable to return the handset as I have opened the box and powered on the phone.
Surely I am unable to base my buying choice over the internet for a piece of technology without having used it.
Please please advise how I can approach a return.

I suppose it depends on how much you've done with the phone and what you've told them. Their returns policy - http://www.mobilephonesdirect.co.uk/help/faqs - states pretty clearly that the phone "Must be new and unused".
Last time I returned a handset I did power it up, etc... but didn't activate the new sim (used an old one) and didn't remove any of the plastic/protective film, etc... - so when I came to send it back I just did a factory reset and removed the battery etc.. then put it back in the box as new.
If you've used it and removed the protective films, etc... and/or activated the sim and/or told them you've been using it, etc... then you've clearly broken the terms under which you're eligible to return.
If you're able to return it to the box in an "as new" condition, you could ring up and try again.0 -
@horsepills, thanks for reply. My wife recently renewed her contract with Vodafone and has 14 days unlimited use of the handset in which time she can return for any reason.
The LG G3 is not exactly bad but it offers little improvement on my Note 2 which has served me very well over 2 years. I knew I should have stuck with Note series from Samsung even with the additional expense. The G3 is good but overly bloated with apps I don't want and cannot remove which take up limited RAM resources.0 -
It's tough. If all retailers allowed people to return a used phone they would make massive losses and hike prices for everyone else.0

agree mobilejunkie. I kinda knew what i was venturing into when i took the deal (which included £60 auto cash back on a flagship phone). If only it was the 32gb version with 3gb RAM I would be as happy as a happy addict in a very happy place. Its odd LG didnt simply just launch the 3gb version.
P.S - the music playback on the G3, which is high on my list of preferences, IS AMAZING!!!0 -
Try a factory reset first .0

Well all I am delighted to let you all know mobilephonesdirect.co.uk could not have been more helpful. They offered to take the handset back and have confirmed full refund of any monies taken and cancellation of contract. They even helped out the PAC issues.
All in all I would say mobilephonesdirect.co.uk conducted themselves over the whole event reasonably well. Staff were courteous and polite at all times and even had a Supervisor worth naming (shan't name in case this is frowned on) took ownership of the case and ensured everything was closed down correctly.
I would almost certainly recommend the company based on my experience. Some occasions its good to have a bad experience.0 -
Glad I read this, I'm thinking of using them myself!0
