As a family of four we travelled in cuba in 2012 and our return flight with thomson was delayed 24 hours.I wrote to the airline requesting compensation and received a reply saying that delay was not their fault so the compensation claim was declined. after seeing Martin on the This Morning program discussing this issue, I decided to write to the CAA for advice via email.First of all I recieved a conformation email from the CAA advising that they would investigate for me. AMAZING within 2 weeks we received email saying that thomson had now admitted error and later that day a phone call from thomson asking how we would like to be paid. The amount was £1891.00.:T
Dont give up whatever you are told by your airline. Speak to CAA for advice.
Thank you Martin Lewis for your advice

Well done Happyliverpool however the general advise of this forum is NOT to involve the normal useless/toothless/worthless CAA.0

Well I don't know about that because without their intervention I would be a lot more poorer now than I am.0

However, a year ago, the reply from the CAA would have been "it will take us a year to investigate".
Only recently have they started to shape up.
But it's like a fish bone in the throat for them, they don't really like doing so, they are on the side of the airlines if they possibly can be.0 -

Yes. And there are more passengers who've had their claims rejected by the CAA than accepted - on the basis of faulty and unlawful guidelines. And even in the minority of cases when the CAA have "supported" the passenger, they've made it clear eh weren't prepared to make the airlines pay up - and many airlines duly thus ignored them!0 -
Quite how other NEB's have managed to impose penalties on airlines for non compliance, yet the CAA have not sanctioned against ONE SINGLE AIRLINE, should speak volumes.0
