I don't bother with any of their deals like that.

The problem is, there are too many ways to get cashback on this and that these days.

Too many ways to get cashback? Not at all! The more the merrier.

    In the last 12 months, I have had;

    Halifax Cashback Extras £28.48
123 credit card cash back (4 months) £45.67
    Halifax Credit Card Rewards £60.00
    Halifax Current Account Rewards 60.00
123 Current Account DD cashback (net) £64.35
    Capital One Cashback (net) £168.44
    Top Cashback £177.66

    Total £604.60

It'll be interesting to find out if getting cashback at the tills on a debit card is included in the 5% cashback at Waitrose. Could get the maximum cashback amount in one trip without having to spend a packet.

No reason you couldn't proposition men if that makes you more comfortable.

Thinking back, they really don't advertise these deals much. There was a 1% cashback for plane tickets that expired 31st Aug 2014.

I think I bought the tickets on 30th August when I saw it. Could easily have left it a few days later. Took ages to show up as well, but I got it.

I had at least two ads for that - one of them was an A5 flyer (probably with my c/card statement which keeps arriving on paper despite turning off paper statements), can't remember how I saw it the other time.

For each person / household, it's the old question of weighing what it costs in money against what it costs in hours. Personally it's worth a fair few hours if it gives me £15 - but if that was what I call a "safe impulse buy" amount for me, it wouldn't be worth much time. Also depends whether the time spent is enjoyed or hated and that's personal too. Everyone's going to have a different threshold.

I'm budgeting as if my life depends on it (well, my daily life and my old age quality of life do!), and that's why I log in to the bank several times a week - minimum once a week. Plus I prefer to do everything online when pos rather than phoning.

It's a marketing material preference, versus paper statement.

I always un-tick these things, I'm just gobsmacked that they actually followed my wishes. The John Lewis Partnership credit card statement turns up with L'Oreal pamphlets, and all sorts of feminine leaflets.

lol. I don't mind them telling me when I can get cashback!
But I am annoyed at being reminded to turn off paper statements, when I opted for online statements from the start and have re-opted for them (by changing the preference and changing it back) a couple of times since. I get both kinds!

Why is Santander's 3% interest rate quoted as "market leading" on various MSE web pages, including this news article? There are other current accounts offering 4% and 5% interest.

No one is offering above 3% interest on a current account above £5,000. Therefore, as Santander offer 3% on up to £20,000 I think it is market leading.
