What's the hardest game you've ever played?

Options
My buddy has promised to buy me 10 drinks if I beat Warhammer 40k. Anyone done that? What are my chances?

For me it's probably the original XCom series or Myst.
I haven't started at Warhammer yet!

Warhammer 40K is a franchise rather than an individual game, there's quite a few Warhammer 40K games so it depends which one they are referring to and on what difficulty. I've finished the last few 40k games (Space Marine, Dawn of War, Dawn of War 2) although I've not tried Space Hulk yet.

The toughest game of recent times which I managed to finish is Super Hexagon on line last setting, all you need to do is survive 60 seconds but it's very tough to do so.

Did anyone here own a ZX Spectrum? Before the days of automatic updates and patches you could be stuck on a level for days due to bugs.

So my hardest game was some crappy Spectrum platform game.

Fritz on highest level and decent cpu. Doesn't get much harder than that. Houdini supposed to be near unbeatable too.

Old school, Nethack or Adom. You will not finish these without reading up and cheating.

Current(ish) games - Dark Souls. A real struggle and so worth it. Doesn't get the press of say Skyrim, but is a much better game. The atmosphere is perfect.

If you haven't played Shadow Of The Colossus, please give it a try. Not super hard, but please, give it a go.

I had a Commodore64 and remember similarly tough games, in some cases just getting the game to load and start up while others were just ridiculously difficult. The funny thing is that years later I tried some of them again with 'cheats enabled on an emulator to have unlimited health/lives etc. and found the reason they were so tough is because there was actually very little content to the game and it took a matter of minutes with cheats enabled compared to hours spent normally getting nowhere.

  • I think the hardest game I ever played was Portal on hard. The puzzles are insane to try and figure out.
