How much is the max you can withdraw at the bank in 1 day?

I need to withdraw a sum of £600, do I need to phone the bank prior to this, or will showing up with my bank card and ID be okay?

It depends which bank. It usually between 250 and 500 per day from an ATM. However, if you need higher amounts it is generally accepted that you phone your bank first to advise them of the amount you want and they will normally make an arrangement so that you can have it. Again, different banks will have different maximums and your best course of action is to ask your bank specifically.0

For anything over £1000 I always ring and ask. When I bought a car last month I needed to withdraw over £10k so rang the day before to ensure they had the cash available. Just as well I did as they had to order it in

Why on earth did you draw out £10k in cash? when its far easier to either pay by debit card, or bankers draft or even pay via FPS or Chaps.
When we paid for our car with cash we paid it via debit card, we just let the bank know we were going to the dealers to pay for it. It was a considerably larger amount than £10k.
I wouldn't risk carry around £10k in hard cold cash in case something happened.Time is a path from the past to the future and back again. The present is the crossroads of both. :cool:0 -

It may have been agreed but as dr_A says it's a big risk to be carrying £10K in cash around, especially if you're intending to hand it over to someone you don't know.0 -

I was buying from a Lotus specialist and it's always easier to bargain when you can pay in cash there and then. Carrying that with me was never an issue really.0 -

Not sure why that would be.
The security issues with a dealer handling that amount of cash, and the banking charges incurred in banking it, would be far higher than paying by debit card.0
