I would pay under protest and then fight it out with them, because I know what would happen if I simply refused to pay even though their bill was wrong.
The system is unfair but it's still the system. There's no point in getting into a battle you can't win. What will your verse be?

This erroneous billing, estimated billing and CRA fiasco can all be avoided by the use of a prepayment meter.
Very clever device is the prepayment meter. You bung dosh on it - the dosh gets nibbled up as you use your fuel, you then refill it.
No estimated bills, no bills, no CRA hassle.
All hail the prepayment meter.0 -

Why?
Why should we pay to estimated bills?
Why can't the companies respond in a timely and efficient manner?
Why are they allowed to bully us in this way?
Why can't they be forced to provide a better service?
Why do you always expect us to concede?
Why do you think the consumer that is being abused cannot win?
Why are you such a pushover?0 -

Personally this system has always worked well.Archi_Bald wrote: »If you don''t want to pay based on an estimate, submit your own readings and ask for a new bill if one doesn't get produced automatically upon your submission. Submit your readings monthly to avoid estimates in future.
Problem solved.
And while you two are having your love in I wonder if that would really work, could you persuade BG to try it out as a good principle?
This advice comes direct to you from the Viz pages:eek:
And if you were able to carry a thought from one thread to another you may wish to consider why it took BG nearly 12 months to update my estimated final bill despite repeatedly telling them the readings were wrong?
And the bills they kept sending to a dear old pensioner that didn't even have gas!
Large corporations frequently !!!! it up in spades, they need to be made accountable, seems very straightforward to me.0 -

If the bill is demonstrably wrong and legitimately in dispute, the onus has to be on the utilities to correct and then represent. Not to bully or pressurise the consumer. It's like loan sharks sending the heavies around.0 -

Paying a higher bill is inconsequential to me when I consider that I want to apply for a mortgage soon. What will your verse be?
