BEWARE....British Gas

British Gas have totally messed up my credit score and now I cannot get out of my Bridging Loan to a standard mortgage. Use anyone but British/Scottish Gas for your utilities. I got grossly overestimated gas bills for my previous home which I only paid once they had corrected the bills. BG say I was overdue and the account is marked as delinquent. It was paid in full as soon as they sorted out their end. I now have this on my EXPERIAN file for 6 years. I dealt with 'Escalated complaints' who only look at the amended gas bills. I should not have to pay whatever BG demand....just what is actually due. Experian should not be complacent in this high handed dinosaur of a company. BG should remember it is not a State run monopoly anymore and should NOT have the right to ruin peoples future.

Should pay under protest if you can afford to then dispute the amount with them. Refusing to pay altogether is going to lead to negative information being reported about you.

Did you provide the readings in good time?

Did you not pay what was due?

If I give you a shovel will you dig a hole and jump in it?

As I say, it was paid in full as soon as meter reading resolved!

Many thanks....It was paid in full as soon as the estimated bill was amended to what I actually had used which was less.
  • It's a lesson learned that just because you dispute a bill, don't just refuse to pay it. Pay it and then try and sort it out.
Credit 'Score' - Don't buy the credit 'score' that Experian, Equifax and Noddle want to sell you. It's an arbitrary number that means nothing when it comes to applying for credit.

You're a real fan of pay what they say, not pay what you owe, aren't you?

The OP DID pay what was due, when they sent him/her the correct bill.
  • What I find comical is how these firms expect payment on time. BT for example expect payment within ten days of the bill date. Notwithstanding their second class postage takes about four days to reach you. Yet when I disconnected from them they owed me £47.26 and took 46 days to pay me and I had to call them to spur it on. Perhaps I could leave them a black mark.

    I said

"Did you not pay what was due?

    Perfectly plain English to me.

Relationships are two way. Not one way.

I have to agree with Thrugelmir. You can always reclaim overpayments to them, but you can't get them to remove a mark from your credit file.

A part payment made in good faith is one way of maintaining the relationship. Digging in isn't always the best tactic. As the Company concerned won't have the time to micro manage accounts. So will follow due process.
