Sorry to hear about your fall Beanie, I hope you are not too sore. Such exciting news about the scooter, it will make such a difference to you I am sure.
My Dad has used electric chairs/scooters for years and currently has three ! One that is portable and kept in the car, one that is larger for longer distances at home and one that is smaller as he now sadly has to use it indoors. They make such a difference to the quality of his life and have helped him maintain his independence after his stroke.
From experience you need to consider the practical implications. Where will you store it, how will you access it, where will you charge it, will you need to use it indoors/shops (think of the width for getting through door frames). I am sure you friend will be able to help you think through all of this and get the best model to suit you. Dad always gets his from a local company for all the reasons you describe and also they will often trade them back in, if you decide to change or update.0 -

Thanks so much for your helpful post.
At the moment my thoughts are for out and about locally & for in the car for when out and about. I will not be using it in the house. I feel I do need to still be doing some moving about without it.I am a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on Mortgage Free Wannabe & Local Money Saving Scotland & Disability Money Matters. So this diary is about my disability and the challenges that brings and how that ties in with trying to be MSE.
I want to thank you all so much for the love & support you show to me & for listening to my rambling. Sometimes being disabled seems like a lonely place but not here.
I have finally made my peace with it.
Only taken 50 odd years

Oh beanie! That's such a change for you, thats wonderful to read. Definitely enabling, to use aids. And empowering. I remember when my grandad got a braille watch, that was really something. But tying it in to mse ways, thats a whole different ball game, and needs a fair bit of juggling. Good for you for keeping on (plodding, as you say
) and getting through it. xxx

If you are using it for locally, and to take in the car, you will need to think about distance and battery life. You don't want to run out of juice once you get to the shops
If you are taking it in the car, you need to consider whether it will fit and how you will get it in there. Dad has a hoist fitted to lift it in, because it is too heavy for Mum to lift. Also the batteries are quite heavy if you have to take them off to bring them indoors to charge.
Sorry if you know all this, but we have learnt by trial and error over the last few years.
But Dad loves his "bike" as he refers to it and would have had no independence without it. After his stroke he lost all of his left side and can only walk a few steps with the aid of a stick. His big "bike" actually looks a bit like a Harley Davidson and we are threatening to buy him a leather jacket with "Easy Rider" picked out in studs on the back :rotfl:
You definitely are not giving in Beanie, this is so sensible and will hopefully expand what you can do and also stop so many falls..which could potentially do you more damage.
I can't wait to hear how you get on with it :j0
