Sorry sticking my nose in again. Are they sure about a CH leak cos normally CH doesn't go up in the loft unless you are in a bungalow with solid floors. I'm in a 2 storey with solid floors and mine goes up and down like a yoyo but never higher than the underfloor space upstairs (apart obviously from accessing the upstairs rads). The only piping I have in the loft is the water for the power shower. I had the cylinder removed from the loft when I had the original combi boiler installed.

We have pipes running at ceiling level. The signs of leaks tend to be wet spots along a line on the ceiling or a bulging ceiling if the problem has not been resolved. I had a bulging ceiling before it actually started dripping through the ceiling.

I should have remembered you were in a bungalow, sorry about that lapse.

Did you ever watch MacGyver? It's on channel 64 and I am rewatching - good for a giggle. So in the spirit of MacGyver, send DS aloft with towel/ kitchen roll/ loo roll to dry off the spot. Blue Tack/chewing gum to bung over/into the problem and some tape that is quite sticky (my preference is insulating tape) and wrap to hold it there. It won't solve your leak but it may stop it from doing real damage to your ceiling until the pennies are there to fix it. Even a plastic sheet under the pipe that you can send one of them up to soak up the leaked water once a day would help.

If it is just a leaky joint, then it should just need 'man with soldering thingy (see how really technical I am)' for 2 minutes to sort it.

If it hasn't been installed long you could try whoever installed it. These joints should last a lot of years and by that I mean lots of years with 0s on the end.
