Let your fingers do the walking first, beanie - I happened to check out what a local jewellery shop would charge for an insurance appraisal, and I was really shocked at the price - I think you need to go somewhere competitive for that kind of thing - not your equivalent of my tiny little 30,000-people town.Anyway.
So I am thinking of selling my engagement ring.

After much worrying & deliberating I have worked out that if I can get through to the end of the year that I will be in a much much better financial position.
That is only 10 months.

I would think get an online price, get a couple of jewellers to value it and go from there. But I really don't know
